As the fourth 2011-dated five ouncer and the ninth in the America the Beautiful coin series, the Vicksburg silver coin honors the civil war military park in Mississippi that memorializes the siege and the defense of the town the on the Mississippi River.

On the reverse of the coin is a depiction of the U.S.S. Cairo, a Civil War warship, on the Yazoo River as it would have looked when it was in service for the Union Navy. The inscriptions include VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, 2011 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The obverse and reverse designs are the same as the circulating Vicksburg quarter but on a larger scale.

Like the other five ounce coins that are still available from the U.S. Mint, the Vicksburg coin will be $204.95, although its price is subject to change. The coins are composed of .999 fine silver, and bear the "P" mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint. Each is encapsulated to protect the uncirculated finish and packaged in a presentation case along with a Certificate of Authenticity.
