Of all the 2010 Fractional American Gold Eagle bullion coins, the smallest and most affordable 1/10 ounce size is the most popular.
The new fractional Gold Eagles were released on June 10, 2010 and enjoyed robust five-day debuting sales of 310,000. Last week's U.S. Mint sales report showed they improved to 340,000.
Not much has changed since as only 15,000 more were purchased, bringing their tally to 355,000. In fact, the 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce sizes have remained frozen since last Thursday -- the 15K came from the 1/10 ounce eagles, which now account for 78.9% of all fractional sales. Their 280,000 total surpassed the 260,000 sold in 2008 and in 2009.
The 1 oz American Gold Eagles added another 17,500, bringing June sales to what looks like a final 97,000. The 22-karat gold pieces have reached 618,500 year to date.
Bullion American Silver Eagles have topped 18.1 million this year after the just over 3 million left U.S. Mint inventories in June. With six months remaining in 2010, they are well on their way to surpassing last year's annual record of 28,766,500.
2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollars rallied, with 4,258 in weekly proof sales versus the prior 1,979. The uncirculated coins gained 985 compared to 84. The combined weekly increase of 5,243 is more than double the level seen in recent weeks. If the current pace was maintained, the silver dollars would sell out just before the year ended. Their combined total is 214,808, which is 61.4% of the allotted 350,000.
The Mint's First Day Coin Covers' deadline helped augment their sales. The six D.C. & U.S. Territories quarters covers jumped higher across-the-board for a second straight week.
Pierce Presidential $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set opening sales are 1,340 (from their release last Thursday through to Sunday). The prior Fillmore set opened at 2,362.
