U.S. Mint collector coins went through a bit of a summer sales dip following the week after the new Yosemite quarter was released.
The next big coin launch will occur on Thursday when the Mint issues the 2010 proof Platinum Eagle, but not much was on collectors' radars between August 2 and August 8.
Bullion Silver Eagles, the 2010 Proof Set, and the 2010 Mint set put up solid unit gains, but there were few other products making huge movements.
Authorized purchasers pulled another 592,000 American Silver Eagles from the Mint's shelves since Thursday the 5th, indicating good, but not great -- as in 2010 great -- demand. Their year-to-date total surpassed 22 million; it was 22,017,000.
American Gold Eagle one ounce bullion coins jumped 22,000 to move their monthly total to 25,500. Purchasers also picked up the half ounce and the tenth ounce fractionals. They took 1,000 of the halves and 15,000 of the tenths.
The Mint reported new sales figures for the 2009 DC and Territories Quarters Proof Set and its silver proof set. They had shown no status updates since July 25. Their numbers jumped by over two thousand each. The regular proof set's total was updated to 618,072 and the silver version reached 288,124.
Sales for bags and rolls of new America the Beautiful Quarters™ cooled after experiencing previous improvements. Two-roll set remain the most popular for each quarter. Yosemite's quarters advanced 1,985, Yellowstone's coins gained 474, and Hot Springs's piece added 198. Their numbers had been 23,416; 1,074 and 707 during Yosemite's inaugural week.
One of the few numismatic items to outperform its prior increase was the 2010 American Buffalo Proof gold coin. 692 sold this time compared to 556. The most popular individual coin, however, was the American Veterans Disabled for Life proof coins. They shot up 799, but their previous advance had been 986. The uncirculated option grew by 217.
