The latest batch of United States Mint weekly sales data includes the first official reporting of the rocketing 2010 Boy Scouts of America Centennial Silver Dollars.
The BSA coins launched on March 23, 2010, and were an immediate hit, blasting off with 200,000 sold within the first four days. The latest US Mint sales report shows that as of Sunday, March 28, the coins have reached 214,673. Collectors purchased 144,732 proofs and 69,941 uncirculated dollars.
With a touch over 61% of the total allotted 350,000 mintage already purchased within a single week, it would appear these coins are headed for a sell out.
The first commemorative coin to get released this year, the 2010 American Veterans Disabled for Life Silver Dollar, advanced another 14,684 to 181,052. The numbers are not as robust as the Boy Scout coins, but are solid for a commemorative that has been on the market for just over a month.
Also debuting this week is the 2010 Millard Fillmore Presidential $1 Coin and Abigail First Spouse Medal Set. Between its noon launch on Friday and to Sunday, collectors scooped up 2,362.
2010 Presidential $1 Coin Proof Sets stand out, but for the wrong reason -- their negative movement. It would appear the Mint has made an accounting correction as the sets were yanked back 31,436 and lowered to a new total of 329,774.
The 2009 Presidential Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set did not move higher. The set is now listed on the Mint Web site as sold out.
