The U.S. Mint raised its prices Wednesday, September 12, on all of its coin collecting products containing either gold or platinum.
The 2012 American Platinum Eagle Proof Coin was one of 15 coins to see a price increase
Those items included the American Eagle gold coins as well as the American Eagle platinum coin and also the American Buffalo, First Spouse issues and Star-Spangled Banner gold commemorative products. (Jump to new coin prices.)
Following the U.S. Mint pricing policy, the increase was implemented as the weekly average on the London Fix for both gold and platinum rose to a higher level between last Thursday and Wednesday.
For gold, the newest average climbed into a price range of $1,700.00 to $1,749.99 an ounce, which resulted in a $50 price increase per ounce of gold within coin collecting products produced from the precious metal.
For platinum, London’s weekly average ascended to a price bracket between $1,550.00 and $1,649.99 per ounce. Accordingly, the one ounce American Platinum Eagle Proof Coin’s price jumped by $100. Note, this made the second price increase for the coin since its launch on August 9.
In all, 15 U.S. Mint coin collecting product prices increased. The table below briefly summarized each price increase:

Prices are subject to another evaluation or adjustment next Wednesday, September 19, 2012. In order for a price change to occur, the weekly average for gold on the London Fix would need to move outside of $1,700.00 to $1,749.99 an ounce, and for the single platinum product, platinum’s weekly London Fix average would need to slide away from $1,550.00 to $1,649.99 per ounce.
