U.S. Virgin Islands Official First Day Coin CoverWASHINGTON - The United States Mint announced today that the limited-edition U.S. Virgin Islands Official First Day Coin Cover will be available online at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog beginning at noon Eastern Time (ET) on November 10, 2009.  The agency will offer for sale only 20,000 units.

The U.S. Virgin Islands Official First Day Coin Cover contains two U.S. Virgin Islands commemorative quarter-dollar coins-one each from the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver.  The quarters are mounted on a handsome display card in an envelope with a 44-cent United States Flag postage stamp.  The postmark, September 28, 2009, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, VI, marks the day U.S. Virgin Islands quarters were first released to the Federal Reserve Bank and to the public. U.S. Virgin Islands QuarterWASHINGTON - The commemorative quarter-dollar coin honoring the United States Virgin Islands was officially launched today in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands. United States Mint Deputy Director Andy Brunhart and United States Virgin Islands Governor John P. deJongh Jr. hosted the ceremony.

"The United States Virgin Islands commemorative quarter-dollar coin reflects a rich culture steeped in the outstanding natural beauty of the three islands," said United States Mint Director Ed Moy.

The United States Virgin Islands quarter was released into circulation on September 28. The coin's reverse (tails side) design features an outline of the territory's three major islands. The design also includes the Yellow Breast or Bananaquit, the official bird of the United States Virgin Islands; the Yellow Cedar or Yellow Elder, its official flower; and a Tyre Palm Tree. U.S. Virgin Islands QuarterUnited States Mint Deputy Director Andy Brunhart will join U.S. Virgin Islands Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. Friday, October 9, 2009, to officially launch the territory's new commemorative quarter.

The festivities will take place at 9:30 a.m., at Emancipation Gardens in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. United States Congresswoman Donna Christensen also will participate. The free ceremony, which includes local entertainment, is open to the public and news media.

US Virgin Islands Quarters in Bags and RollsThe United States Mint began selling U.S. Virgin Islands quarter bags and rolls on Monday, Sept. 28, at noon ET. On the same day, the quarter-dollars officially entered circulation.

The US Mint’s two-roll set offering includes 40 commemorative coins with the "P" mint mark for Philadelphia and a roll of 40 coins with the "D" mint mark for Denver. The set price is $32.95. Also available are 100-coin and 1,000-coin bags from each US Mint facility for $32.95 and ...

U.S. Virgin Islands QuarterWASHINGTON - The United States Mint will accept orders for numismatic products containing the United States Virgin Islands commemorative quarter-dollar coin beginning noon Eastern Time (ET) September 28.

The options, available for approximately 10 weeks, include a two-roll set containing 40 coins per roll and bags of 100 and 1,000 coins.

The two-roll set, priced at $32.95, includes one roll each of coins from the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver wrapped in specially designed paper coin wrap. The packaging is marked with a "P" or "D" representing the mint of origin, "$10" representing its dollar value and "VI," the United States Postal Code for the United States Virgin Islands.

The 100-coin bags, also priced at $32.95, and the 1,000-coin bags, priced at $309.95, are marked with the mint of origin and the dollar value of its contents ($25 or $250). Both the bags and the two-roll sets feature quarters used in regular circulation. [click to continue…]

American Virgin Island residents overwhelmingly prefer a naturalist theme for their 2009 territorial quarter over a choice of an historical or philosophical theme. The Virgin Islands "Beauty Design" out polled "First in Freedom" by a 3:2 margin and a 2:1 margin over the so-called "Three Queens" design.

The official announcement is in… V.I. Beauty wins the commemorative quarter design contest. It’s been selected by residents and Governor. John P. deJongh, Jr. to represent the Virgin Islands. Public voting for three designs ended Friday, June 13. “V.I. Beauty” received 6,882 votes. The “First in Freedom” and “Three Queens” designs garnered 4,553 and 1,887 votes respectively.

Artist renderings of three Virgin Islands commemorative quarter designs  have been prepared by the United States Mint and sent back to the Office of the Governor for review. U.S. Virgin Island residents can vote for their favorite design online or by mail-in ballot. Voting ends Friday, June 13.

The winning design will be recommended to the U.S. Mint as the selected commemorative quarter for issuance next year as part of the District of Columbia and United States Territories Circulating Quarter Dollar Program.
