Mint Stats: Jackson - The Start of Something Beautiful - NumisMaster

Gold bullion 1 ounce Eagle sales were up almost 40,000 this week prior to the news Aug. 14 that the Mint had suspended all sales of the coin.

Jackson Presidential dollars didn’t make the chart, but the 250-P bag sold 436, the 250-D bag sold 329, 21,070 for the 25-P roll and 20,995 for the 25-D roll.

Mint Stats: Platinum Eagle Numbers Take a Breather - NumisMaster

The Mint has been trying to reprice its platinum American Eagle collector coins. It has taken the proofs, uncs and anniversary set off sale. However, it did not all happen at once, so the proof numbers moved up a tad as the uncirculated “W” numbers and the anniversary set stayed the same.

Mint Stats: Buffalo Gold Fractionals Make Their Debut - NumisMaster

It is getting more cramped on this page as the proof and uncirculated Buffalo gold collector coins with the “W” mintmark were added to the lists immediately below this commentary. See what you think of initial sales levels.

Some 2007 products that went off sale have disappeared and some 2008 products have been added elsewhere.

Mint Stats: As Usual, All the Talk is Silver and Gold - NumisMaster

My eyes were drawn to gold and silver this week after news that prices have dropped at press time to $897 and $16 respectively.

Bullion numbers increased across the board. American Eagle gold sales jumped by 8,500 ounces, silver by 391,500 and platinum by 200. Sales of all weights increased sizably except for the 1/10 ounce gold, which stayed the same.

Mint Stats: Platinum Sells in Dribbles When It’s Offered - NumisMaster

No 2008 platinum proof American Eagles were sold during this reporting period. They are not currently on sale at the Mint Web site.

The uncirculated 2008-W platinum American Eagles registered some very small increases. For the one ounce, the sales amounted to 32 this week, bringing the overall total to 135. The half ounce was up by 16, the quarter ounce actually declined by 6 and the tenth ounce went up by 148. The four-coin set rose by 100.

Mint Stats: Summer Not Slow for Plain Vanilla Proof Set - NumisMaster

It is gratifying to look at 2008 proof set sales this week. From a numismatic standpoint, they are so wholesome and ordinary.

It may seem odd to use the word “wholesome” in a numismatic context, but in my life of coin collecting, the proof set has been part of the bedrock. When we didn’t have them 1965-1967, collectors felt deprived.

Mint Stats: Uncirculated Platinum Eagle Numbers Arrive - NumisMaster

The 2008-W platinum uncirculated coins make their debut in the box directly below this column. As can be seen from the early sales, expensive coins sell in small numbers.

But then again, it might just be summer, as evidenced by the sales of bags of the Presidential dollars. Their numbers hardly budged. The current issue, the John Quincy Adams bags, sold in the largest quantity. The combined total for the 25-coin roll rose by 1,682.

Mint Stats: State Quarter Box Comes Back for a Week - NumisMaster

Reader Halbert Carmichael e-mailed me to ask whether it wasn’t time to bring the state quarter box back. He missed seeing what the latest totals are. So, for a one-week engagement, I have moved the box back into position and the numbers are brought up to date. You might notice that the Oklahoma quarter from Denver now has the honor of holding the lowest mintage, which at 194,600,000 does not make it rare by any stretch of the imagination.

Mint Stats: Summer Doldrums Broken Only by Eagles - NumisMaster

I hope you have a nice summer backyard barbecue to plan this week because the numbers on this page don’t provide much to exercise the mind, unless of course, you are actively trading in American Eagle bullion coins.

Numbers basically crept up a little, or even down a little in a case or two, but no major changes in trends seem obvious.

Mint Stats: Silver Eagles Jump Over 1 Million for June - NumisMaster

The reduction in the number of silver blanks shipped to the Mint has not yet shown up in the sales numbers of the American Eagles. This week the total increased by 667,000 to 1,092,000. This compares to 1,516,000 for all of May.

Gold American Eagle totals took a few steps forward. The one-ounce coin increased by 4,000 coins and the half-ounce went on the board with 1,000 coins.

Mint Stats: Eagles, Eagles, Let’s Say More About Eagles - NumisMaster

May’s silver American Eagle bullion total of 1,516,000 has been replaced by the numbers from the first week of June. The 425,000 figure is a respectable weekly number. Unfortunately, the Mint’s silver blank suppliers cut by half the number they can supply weekly to the Mint. Sooner or later, this drop will show up in the numbers and it is probably likely that the June monthly total will be significantly fewer.

Mint Stats: Numbers Rise a Bit for Eagles as May Ends - NumisMaster

The silver American Eagle sold to the bullion market saw its May monthly total rise by another 72,500 to 1,516,000 coins. The demand for these is still exceeding supply and every additional coin is being eagerly snapped up.

The one-ounce gold American Eagle bullion coin total rose by 1,500 pieces. The one-ounce gold Buffalo rose by 500 coins.

Mint Stats: John Quincy Adams Dollar Bags, Rolls Added - NumisMaster

John Quincy Adams dollar rolls and bags appear this week. To make room, the 2006 Westward Journey nickel series set number of 147,319 has dropped out. Sales have stopped, so take note of the final number for your records.

Compared to the Monroe dollar roll and bag totals, it would seem that the Adams numbers have opened up fairly strongly for the rolls.

Mint Stats: Which Commemorative is Closest to Sellout? - NumisMaster

I was doodling around with the Bald Eagle numbers. Without looking at the commemorative column, which of the denominations do you think is selling best?

If you go by sheer numbers, it is the silver dollar, which has registered 311,239 sold out of a possible 500,000. The half dollar sales have reached 235,850 out of 750,000 and gold has hit 67,501 out of a possible 100,000.
