Both surviving members of the WASP, as well as representatives of deceased members of the organization, participated in the ceremony.  The medal, presented by the Congressional leadership, honors WASP members for their pioneering military service that led to reform in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The WASP was composed of the first women in history to fly American military aircraft.  They flew more than 60,000,000 miles in every type of aircraft and on every type of assignment flown by their male counterparts except combat missions.  During that time, 38 women pilots lost their lives. The pace of striking coins at the US Mint has been much like watching a crawling turtle stroll through the mud. Mintage levels were way down last year, and slumped in January to start this one — numbers were less than half that of January 2009. February was no different, according to the latest round of coin production figures. (See Chart)

A highlight for the month includes action in Roosevelt dimes to the tune of 19 million in Philadelphia. It was last April when the United States Mint announced that it would produce no more dimes during 2009, and it didn’t. 146 million were struck in total for the year. The 2010-dated dime amount is token level, but ... ...

America the Beautiful Quarter ObverseThe America the Beautiful Quarters Program debuts this year. The first major numismatic product out of the gate to feature the coins will be the 2010 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set™.

Since the law authorizing the new quarters is relatively new and the Mint had a substantial amount of "catch up" to do in creating the groundwork for all 56 National Parks and National Sites to be honored from 2010 to 2021, this year’s quarters and related collectors products will get issued much later than typical.

That inherently implies that they will not be around as long, indicating their mintage / sales levels could be greatly ...
