This week the topic is San Francisco Roosevelt dimes. Are these dimes important enough to be subdivided by mint as was done in recent weeks in these pages?

Roosevelt dimes continue to be relatively quiet to the point where some have been suggesting that there is little chance they will show any significant price movements in the near future. That happens to be the way it always looks when a particular type of coin has a slow period. It also frequently means a change is right around the corner for one reason or another.

Roosevelt dimes of Denver get once-over - Numismatic News

Now into its seventh decade of production, the Roosevelt dime is still looking for a serious collector base. It is not a case where there are no collectors of Roosevelt dimes but rather one of the numbers being smaller than might be expected. That could very easily change especially as new generations of collectors realize how many interesting opportunities there are to be found in Roosevelt dimes.

Early Philadelphia Roosevelts Gain Value - NumisMaster

It’s probably natural that for most of the more than 60 years that the Roosevelt dime has been in production the Roosevelt dimes of Philadelphia have received very little attention. You could perhaps make a case that Roosevelt dimes in general have received very little attention, but coming from the main facility in Philadelphia at least for much of the six decades of Roosevelt dimes the general assumption has been that there is nothing special about the coins produced at Philadelphia.

A New Roosevelt Dime - Coin Collector’s Blog

After writing about the next gimmick being offered by Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE), I was thinking about what could be the next change in our change.

At one time, we had a president who looked at our coinage and decided that it needed to change. This president wanted to place his mark on our coinage by creating a modern classic beauty that fit a great nation. Rather than trying to fight with congress to make these changes, this president looked at what could be done without congressional involvement. He picked the oldest coin and started ordering redesign. This president call it his “pet crime.”
