Barrasso supports National Park Quarters

The National Parks Quarter bill first appeared in the House of Representatives when Rep. Mike Castle introduced it on June 4, 2008. On June 26, Senator John Barrasso brought a similar measure (S.3214) before the Senate, showing his support for park and site coins.

House passes Park Quarters bill, next steps - National Park Quarters

The National Park Quarter bill will create at least 56 newly designed quarters over a ten-year period for national parks and sites in each state, D.C. and U.S. Territory. The bill (H.R.6184) passed in the U.S. House on July 9, 2008 opening the door for its next steps.

Coin News Asks Some Good Questions - Coin Man

There was an article posted to Coin News yesterday asking a good question, “Should the Senate follow suit [and pass the National Parks Quarter Dollar Bill]?”

National Park Quarters Pass House, Should the Senate Follow? - CoinNews

Legislation for circulated, uncirculated, proof and silver dollar coins commemorating national parks and sites flew through the House of Representatives in five weeks and ended with a unanimous “yes” vote July 9.
The House has been ablaze with coin talk this year, handling nearly 20 coin bills. Is their coin fervor resulting from the will/desires of people? And, will it carry over to the slower Senate?

National Park Quarters series too much - Numismatic News

Today I am writing about the proposed series of National Park Quarters series proposed by Congressman Mike Castle, R-Del.
Before I begin, let me preface my remarks to say that I have grown to love coin collecting over the 16 years I have been doing it. Anytime I see one of my British and Commonwealth pieces, my Soviet rubles, a nickel or any other coin, I’m filled with awe for the coin itself, respect for the history it represents and a sense of pleasure in the pursuit of the find.

Parks quarter bill passes House - CoinNews

America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (H.R. 6184) sailed through the House easily yesterday with 419 members voting “Yes”, and 0 voting “No”.
H.R. 6184 would authorize the United States Mint to make changes to the design of the quarter-dollar coin to feature one national park or other national site in each state, the District of Columbia, and each territory beginning in 2010.

Wyo will be first with Yellowstone commemorative quarter - Star Tribune

For a mere 25 cents, the nation will know in a couple of years that Wyoming is home to the world’s first national park.
Yellowstone National Park, established in 1872, will grace the first of 50 quarters in a new series of the coins, Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said Wednesday.

National park quarter legislation moving forward - CoinNews

The call for national park quarters grew louder with progress in the House and introduction in the Senate.
The joint quarter-dollar legislation seeks to: “provide for a program for circulating quarter dollar coins that are emblematic of a national park or other national site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory of the United States.”

NMI selects quarter design - CoinNews

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial revealed the selected Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) quarter design and has forwarded the decision to the United States Mint.
Unlike the quarter selection process for the District of Columbia and other U.S. Territories which involved public voting, the CNMI design was chosen by a three-member commission set up by the governor — attorney Teresa Kim, the governor’s special assistant for administration Esther Fleming, and Catherine Perry Anderson.

Mint Arizona First Day Coin Cover on sale - CoinNews

The United States Mint 2008 Arizona Official First Day Cover went on sale today, June 30.
The 35,000 limited edition covers are the 48th in the series and include two shiny Arizona state quarters featuring an image of the Grand Canyon with a Saguaro cactus in the foreground.

Virgin Islands Beauty wins quarter design - CoinNews

The official announcement is in… V.I. Beauty wins the commemorative quarter design contest. It’s been selected by residents and Governor. John P. deJongh, Jr. to represent the Virgin Islands. Public voting for three designs ended Friday, June 13. “V.I. Beauty” received 6,882 votes. The “First in Freedom” and “Three Queens” designs garnered 4,553 and 1,887 votes respectively.

The Duke To Represent DC - Coin Collector’s Blog

On June 19, the District of Columbia Office of the Secretary announced that the design for the DC quarter will feature Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington. The design will include the official District motto, “Justice For All.”
Ellington beat out designs honoring Frederick Douglass and Benjamin Banneker by a margin of 36-percent to 33-percent for Douglass and 31-percent for Banneker. Ellington was the only native of Washington, DC of the group.

The people of the District of Columbia have spoken. And the winner is: Duke Ellington.
More than 6,000 D.C. residents chose among three legendary local figures to be memorialized on the back of a U.S. quarter that will be minted to represent the District. Ellington, the jazz great, received 36 percent of the vote.

D.C. quarter design selected - CoinNews

District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty announced Thursday the winning Washington, D.C. quarter design featuring historical jazz legend, Duke Ellington. The Mayor officially communicated the selection to United States Mint Director Edmund Moy.
On May 23, D.C. residents were given three quarter design concepts and asked to vote for their favorite. Public voting ended Wednesday, June 18. Over the four week voting period, 6,089 District residents cast online, mail or telephone votes.

National Park Quarters Proposed - NumisMaster

Congress has a new coin program on its plate. Rep. Michael Castle, R-Del,. legislative founder of the statehood quarter program, joined forces with the ranking Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee to sponsor H.R. 6184, as an omnibus measure that, if passed, will change the way we look at our change.

Do We Need Another Quarter Series? - Coin Collector’s Blog

In a grand announcement, Rep. Mike Castle (R-DE) announced that he introduced H.R. 6184, America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 that would change the reverse of the quarter dollar coins to be “emblematic of a national park or other historic site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory of the United States.”
Castle, who authored the 50 State Commemorative Coin Act, noted that the program will make more than $6.2 billion in revenue, which will be $3.7 billion more than non-state quarters.
Note to Rep. Castle: ENOUGH!

Tale of two collectors - Coin World

Why some collectors acquire State quarter dollars by the roll is clearly a very individual decision. “The State Quarters” column published in the June 16 issue of Coin World asked collectors who were acquiring two or more rolls of State quarter dollars three questions: “What are you doing with them? Are you putting them in albums? Are you making sets for others?”
In response to the questions, Jamie Goff of Minnesota writes that at one time he had accumulated 2,100 rolls.

Virgin Islands Commemorative Quarter Designs - CoinNews

Artist renderings of three Virgin Islands commemorative quarter designs have been prepared by the United States Mint and sent back to the Office of the Governor for review. U.S. Virgin Island residents can vote for their favorite design online or by mail-in ballot. Voting ends Friday, June 13.
The winning design will be recommended to the U.S. Mint as the selected commemorative quarter for issuance next year as part of the District of Columbia and United States Territories Circulating Quarter Dollar Program.
