The United States Mint this week released images of the 2010 Presidential $1 Dollar Coins. Before now, only images of line art designs were available for this year's coins which continue the series depicting former American Presidents.

The newest dollars in the US Mint Presidential $1 Coin Program honor Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln and will have respective circulating launch dates of February 18, May 20, August 19 and November 18. [click to continue…]
The 2010 Presidential Dollar series represents the fourth year for the program which launched in 2007. Although the United States Mint website has yet to publish specific launch dates for the 2010 $1 coins, the Federal Reserve Bank has as part of its 2010 distribution schedule.
In the order of their official release, the:
- Millard Fillmore $1 is set to launch on February 18
- Franklin Pierce $1 will be released on May 20
- James Buchanan $1 will go public on August 19
- Abraham Lincoln $1will be available on November 18

Over 355 million Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, and John Tyler Presidential $1 Coins were distributed by the Federal Reserve Banks in the last accounting period, according to their annual report to Congress released earlier this year.
However, the Reserve indicates the amount is low compared to what they have on hand, and what is returned by banks.

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint will accept orders for the Zachary Taylor $1 Coin Cover at its Web site, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, starting noon Eastern Time (ET) December 30, 2009.
The limited-edition coin cover, priced at $14.95, features two Zachary Taylor Presidential $1 Coins from the first day of mintage at each facility—September 9, 2009, for the United States Mint at Denver and September 10, 2009, for the United States Mint at Philadelphia.

ORANGE, Va. - Admirers of President Zachary Taylor gathered in Taylor Park today, the 225th anniversary of his birth, to celebrate the United States Mint's release of the Presidential $1 Coin struck in his honor. The launch ceremony was part of the Zachary Taylor Appreciation Day sponsored by the James Madison Museum.
"Millions of Zachary Taylor Presidential $1 Coins will make their way into the hands of Americans who will see them and remember the life of former President Taylor and his contributions to our country," said United States Mint Deputy Director Andy Brunhart. WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will accept orders for rolls of Zachary Taylor Presidential $1 Coins at its online catalog, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, beginning at noon Eastern Time (ET) on November 19, 2009.
Each roll, priced at $35.95, contains 25 circulating quality $1 coins from either the United States Mint facility at Philadelphia or Denver. The coins are wrapped in packaging that displays the mint of origin (P or D), the face value of the contents ($25) and the United States Mint logo.
United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart designed and sculpted the obverse (heads side) and the reverse (tails side) of the Zachary Taylor Presidential $1 Coin. The obverse features Taylor's dramatic portrait with the inscriptions ZACHARY TAYLOR, IN GOD WE TRUST, 12TH PRESIDENT and 1849-1850. The reverse features a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty, with the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the coin's face value. The inscriptions 2009, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint of origin are incused on the coin's edge.

In less than two weeks, James K. Polk Presidential dollar rolls shot past this year’s William Henry Harrison and John Tyler same roll sales.
The US Mint launched the Polk rolls Thursday, Aug. 20. As of Sunday, Aug. 30, collectors purchased a total of 31,915 Philadelphia rolls and 30,920 Denver rolls.
By contrast, the first two 2009 rolls of Harrison and Tyler dollars reached 30,000 from each Mint facility. Is this a fair comparison? No. Unlike prior Presidential roll offerings and the latest Polk $1 rolls, the Mint stopped selling each when they reached the 30,000 figure...

If the Downtown Development Association’s newest Go Local Lincolnton effort “Strange Change” catches on there will be a lot more dollar coins and $2 bills in circulation locally. DDA wants Lincolnton residents to show their support of locally owned businesses by using dollar coins and $2 bills.
“The dollar coin and $2 bill are perfect for this gesture of support,” said Brad Guth, DDA Director. “They are not in wide circulation so they are special when you get them. And now in Lincolnton they will come to symbolize support for local business.”...
