Most industrialized economies don’t waste time with paper money of such paltry purchasing power. For the 15 European countries in the eurozone, the smallest denomination of printed bank notes is the 5 euro, worth almost $8. In Britain, the lightest piece of folding money is 5 pounds, worth $10. In Japan, it’s 1,000 yen, about $9.

Paper v. Coin Dollars - Coin Collector’s Blog

Since the introduction of the Presidential $1 Coin, many numismatic venues have discussed how to make the program more successful. Reports are being made that Gallup has been calling people asking questions that lead to the impression they are researching the circulation of dollar coins.
When asked about how to increase the circulation of the dollar coin, the dominant suggestion has been to remove the one dollar federal reserve note from circulation. It is thought that the move would force people to use the coin when the paper currency is no longer available.

Shifted-edge dollars worth search - Numismatic News

Long after most folks have given up searching the 2007-dated George Washington Presidential dollars for the well-known smooth-edge “Godless dollars” a few die-hards are still at it obtaining what BU rolls can still be had from banks and still finding errors. One of those searchers is Mike Bozynski of Michigan.

2008 Uncirculated Presidential $1 Coin Set Available July 24 - US Mint

Washington - The United States Mint announced today that sets containing uncirculated versions of the second year of coins in the Presidential $1 Coin Program will be available beginning 12 noon (ET) on July 24, 2008. The 2008 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set-containing coins honoring James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren-will be offered at $15.95.
The Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set is composed of eight coins - four each from the United States Mint facilities at Philadelphia and Denver. A protective, rotatable blister encases each coin, allowing full visibility of the edge-incused inscriptions. The coins are displayed in an attractive folder that includes biographical sketches, quotes and portraits of each President.

United States Mint direct ships $1 Presidential coins - CoinNews

The United States Mint announced a new “Direct Ship” program today that will place $1 Presidential Coins directly into the hands of retailers, financial institutions, or anyone interested in buying dollar coins. Even better, orders may be placed at face value — no shipping costs — and in smaller quantities.
Beyond the natural hurdles $1 coins have with paper money, a barrier to the success of the $1 Presidential Coin program is actually finding the coins in circulation, or in banks for that matter.

The Nevada State Museum in honor of the release of this sixth presidential dollar coin is hosting a dollar exchange day on Saturday, June 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

United States Mint Introduces New Program to Ship Presidential $1 Coins

Mint to offer $1 Coins at Face Value Directly to Retailers, Financial Institutions and the Public.
WASHINGTON - The United States Mint announced today a new program to ship circulating Presidential $1 Coins directly to retail establishments, financial institutions, and members of the public. The $1 Coin Direct Ship Program provides individualized service to the financial community and other interested parties who wish to acquire $1 coins at face value in smaller quantities than currently available to financial institutions.
“Retailers and financial institutions want to be responsive to customers’ requests for the Presidential $1 Coin,” said United States Mint Director Ed Moy. “The $1 Coin Direct Ship Program will help them to easily obtain the number of coins that best suits their needs.”
The United States Mint is initiating this program to proactively comply with a directive in the Presidential $1 Coin Act of 2005 to remove barriers and improve circulation of the $1 coin.
The $1 Coin Direct Ship Program is intended to complement-not substitute for-the Federal Reserve Banks’ coin ordering systems. The role of the Federal Reserve Banks is to distribute bulk quantities of coin to depository institutions, which in turn distribute to branches, other financial institutions and the public. Like Father, Like Son; More Adams Errors - NumisMaster

An Ohio trio, Richard Stachurski and his grandsons Zak and Joe El khamiri, has found what may be the first Missing Clad Layer error reported on a 2008-P John Quincy Adams Presidential dollar.
According to Stachurski, he and his grandsons routinely search Presidential dollars for errors with each of the boys assigned different tasks based on age. Four-year-old Joe is assigned the task of clearing away the wrappers from which the coins are quickly removed by 8-year-old Zak who passes them on to Stachurski, who does the actual searching.

Presidential coins not wise investment - Press Democrat

What if I offered to sell you a quarter for 60 cents? You’d tell me to . . . well, I can’t print what you’d probably tell me to do.
So what are we to make of a company called World Reserve Monetary Exchange, which recently took out full-page ads offering rolls of 50 $1 coins for $124? That’s about $2.50 for each $1 coin.

Don’t count on Presidential dollar for Atchison - Numismatic News

Charles Vanderwater reports in his letter (April 15) that he read that David Rice Atchison had served as President of the United States for one day due to a glitch in American law at the time. Based on this information, Vanderwater wondered if this one-day president is entitled to a dollar coin as part of the Presidential $1 Coin Program.
The claim that Atchison was president for a day is one that has drifted through American history for over 150 years.
