How the US Mint Could Have Handled Price Reductions Better - Mint News Blog

This week the US Mint unexpectedly suspended nearly all gold and platinum products and then brought them back after less than one day with mostly lower prices.
Collector response to the price changes has been mostly negative. Some customers who recently placed orders felt that the Mint should issue refunds for the price differences. Others, who routinely purchase their coins as soon as they are released, felt betrayed by the Mint.

Examining “Unprecedented Demand” for Gold Eagles - Mint News Blog

Earlier this week, the United States Mint took further actions to meet the increased demand for gold and silver bullion coins. This included production halts for certain bullion offerings and the continued allocation for one ounce Gold and Silver American Eagle coins. Within the memorandum sent to authorized bullion purchasers, the US Mint specifically stated, “gold and silver demand is unprecedented.”

Today’s post will take a look at the most recent sales figures for 2008-W Uncirculated and Proof Gold Eagles. The sales figures are for the collectible versions of the coins offered direclty by the US Mint and not the bullion versions.
