John Quincy Adams Presidential $1 Coin and First Spouse Medal Set Released - CoinNews

John Quincy Adam United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin and Louisa Adams First Spouse Medal Sets are now available and priced at $7.95 each.

The set was released Wednesday, September 3, and includes an uncirculated John Quincy Adam Presidential dollar coin and a bronze medal bearing the likeness of the Louisa Adams First Spouse gold coin.

FIDEM Medallic Sculpture Exhibit to Close Sept. 15

“The Medal Is the Message: Global Ideas in Handheld Sculpture,” an innovative exhibit at the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum, is closing on Sept. 15, and will be replaced by “A House Divided: Money of the Civil War,” opening on Oct. 9.

“Global Ideas in Handheld Sculpture,” which opened in Sept. 2007, features more than 1,400 works of art created by artists from 32 countries. The exhibit was made for the International Art Medal Federation (FIDEM) Art Medal World Congress, which was hosted by the American Numismatic Association in Colorado Springs. It was the first time in 20 years the prestigious event took place in the United States.

Numismatics and the Olympic Medals - Coin Collector’s Blog

Although I am not a big fan of the Olympics, I can appreciate a good show. The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (BOCOG) put on an great show for the opening ceremonies. The committee for the London 2012 games will have its work cut out for itself after that presentation.

Coin forger’s medal fetches a pretty penny - theage.com.au

THE crowd of medal collectors breathed a collective sigh and craned in their seats as Australia’s first piece of colonial art sold for $750,000 at auction to a beaming mystery buyer seated in the third row.

Minutes later, it was revealed that the National Maritime Museum had bought the Charlotte Medal — a silver disc engraved by the convict and expert forger Thomas Barrett when the First Fleet arrived at Botany Bay. Even the most hardened medal collectors paused in their bidding to clap.

CONECA celebrates 25 years with variety of medals - Numismatic News

The Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America has issued a set of commemorative medals in honor of its 25th anniversary. The set is made up of three normal medals and two misstrikes.

All five medals were struck 39 mm in diameter. The normal strikes are available in 1 ounce .999 pure silver, silver clad and golden bronze.

Two congressional medals approved - Numismatic News

Two congressional gold medals were approved by the U.S. House of Representatives June 10, sending them to the President for an expected signature.

Other bills clearing the House still need to be ratified by the Senate. Former U.S. Sen. Edward W. Brooke of Massachusetts, who is 89, would receive a gold medal as well as Constantino Brumidi, who is known as the artist of the Capitol Building for his 19th century work.

Flea market box yields Charles Schwab treasure -The Morning Call

Penny McKim is an antiques hobbyist who considers herself a skilled treasure hunter. So when she came across a shoebox full of coins and medals at a church flea market in Montgomery County, she had an idea she’d struck gold.

Turns out that $5 box contained three ounces of gold in the form of a distinctive medal presented in 1928 to Charles M. Schwab, the man who built Bethlehem Steel into a world titan.
