WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Gold Coin and Abigail Fillmore First Spouse Bronze Medal on March 18, 2010, at noon Eastern Time (ET).

The one-half ounce 24-karat gold coin, struck at the United States Mint at West Point, will be available in proof and uncirculated conditions.  Pricing for the coins will be based on the United States Mint's pricing structure for precious metals products.

For current pricing information, visit http://usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=goldplat.  The bronze medals, which bear a likeness of the gold coin, will also be available for $5.50 each.

The coin's obverse (heads side) features a portrait of Abigail Fillmore by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill.  Inscriptions on the obverse are ABIGAIL FILLMORE, IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2010, 13th and 1850-1853, the period during which she was the spouse of the President.  [click to continue…]

2010 Lincoln One-Cent Coin Reverse DesignAround this time last year, I wrote that 2009 would be quite a year. As 2009 comes to an end, I know why I am not a prognosticator. With the down economy, the convergence of so many coin programs, and the performance questions of the US Mint it is difficult to call 2009 a successful year; yet it was not a failure.

Some of the success of this year included the 2009 Ultra High Relief Gold Coin, the District of Columbia and US Territories Quarters, and the Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent program.

Although finding the cents and quarters have been difficult to find in change, these new coins had nice designs and was a chance for people to learn about Lincoln’s life and the history of our territories.

With Margaret Taylor First Spouse Coins launching Thursday, Dec. 3, at noon ET, the US Mint will stop selling Van Buren’s Liberty gold coins, making Wednesday the final full day of sales.

Van Buren gold proof and uncirculated coins went on sale Nov. 25, 2008, for the respective prices of $549.95 and $524.95. First Spouse Gold Coin Sales Perhaps collectors saw a window of opportunity last week and jumped on it, since sales for US Mint First Spouse Gold Coins more than doubled their prior week’s numbers.

Prices were lower for the coins from September 30 through October 7, and then they went up by $25 on October 8. Another price boost occurred today, so the Proofs are now $704.00 and the Uncirculated are $691.00.

First Spouse Gold Coin Sales Sales fell down for all but one of the ten available US Mint First Spouse Gold Coins, according to the latest Mint sales data.
