Lincoln Penny Design Images for 2009 Circulating Cents

2009 Lincoln penny design images were revealed by U.S. Mint Director Ed Moy Monday morning during a news conference at the Lincoln Memorial. The four reverse designs celebrate a different aspect of Abraham Lincoln’s life: his birth and childhood in Kentucky, his formative years in Indiana, his professional life in Illinois and his Presidency in Washington, D.C.

United States Mint Unveils New 2009 Penny Designs

WASHINGTON - The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Plaza was the backdrop today for the unveiling, by United States Mint Director Ed Moy, of four new designs for the circulating 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial One Cent Coins. Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Co-Chairman Harold Holzer joined Director Moy for the unveiling.

Authorized by Public Law 109-145, the four new designs celebrate the bicentennial of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth, as well as the 100th anniversary of the production of the Lincoln cent (penny). The new designs will be issued in approximately three-month intervals throughout the year. The first redesigned penny, which will honor Lincoln’s birth and early childhood, will be put into circulation on February 12, 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

Mint director: Gold Double Eagle will be most beautiful U.S. coin ever made - NJ.com

He stresses that he is speaking as an individual and not as director of the U.S. Mint, but Edmund Moy is convinced that the ultra-high-relief gold Double Eagle to be released next year will be the most beautiful U.S. coin ever — maybe the most beautiful coin ever, period.
“Absolutely, without question,” he said during a telephone interview just before he unveiled the 24-karat-gold coin late last month at the World’s Fair of Money in Baltimore.

PNG President’s Reaction to New U.S. Gold Coin

The brief comments below are in conjunction with the unveiling of a new U.S. gold coin, the 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle, by United States Mint Director, Ed Moy, at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® in the Baltimore Convention Center on July 30, 2008.
“This is one of the most creative products to come from the United States Mint. I believe it will be one of the Mint’s most sought after coins,” stated Gary Adkins of Edina, Minnesota, President of the Professional Numismatists Guild (www.PNGdealers.com), a nonprofit organization composed of many of the nation’s top rare coin experts.

United States Mint To Display Real Gold Bars and The Most Beautiful Coin Ever

The United States Mint has chosen the Nation’s largest coin show in Baltimore, Md. this summer to provide a Golden Moment for visitors, unveiling the much-anticipated 2009 United States Mint Ultra High Relief Gold Coin-a modern version of what many call the most beautiful gold piece ever created - the Double Eagle. The exhibit at the United States Mint booth will show the development of this modern masterpiece-from its origin as gold bars-through test strikes-to the finished, one-ounce 24-karat (.9999 pure) 2009 United States Mint Ultra High Relief Gold Coin.
Six bars of refined gold from the United States Mint at West Point will be featured as part of the exhibit. Each gold bar contains 400 ounces of gold and weighs 27.5 pounds. Read the rest of this entry »
