NASA coin bill passed House twice - CoinNews

The House of Representatives passed commemorative coin legislation Tuesday that would issue silver and gold coins honoring NASA’s 50th anniversary this year. The legislation, H.R. 6455, was introduced and passed swiftly in five days.

Praiseworthy speed? Perhaps not… Consider first that H.R. 6455 is nearly identical to H.R. 2750, which the House had already passed in 2007. And for all practical purposes, it’s identical to the Senate’s June passage of S. 2159.

Exploring the story of the New Rochelle, N.Y. 250th anniversary half dollar helps to shed light on the problems with commemoratives of the period.

Let’s begin with the basic fact that we are talking about a half dollar for New Rochelle, N.Y. If you happen to believe that commemoratives should mark some event of national significance, the New Rochelle half dollar is suspect from the start. Pick your favorites of state quarters’ - Part II - Numismatic News

Here we continue my evaluation of the artistic merit of the 50 states quarters.  I have been collecting coins for nearly 40 years, have been a photographer for more than 30 of those years and an artist for part of that time.

Please keep in mind as you read that I am not delving into why a design was chosen for a state or how it was chosen. I am only commenting on what I believe is good, not so good or even poor coin design.

Tale of two collectors - Coin World

Why some collectors acquire State quarter dollars by the roll is clearly a very individual decision.  “The State Quarters” column published in the June 16 issue of Coin World asked collectors who were acquiring two or more rolls of State quarter dollars three questions: “What are you doing with them? Are you putting them in albums? Are you making sets for others?”

In response to the questions, Jamie Goff of Minnesota writes that at one time he had accumulated 2,100 rolls.
