Nov 17 at 2:02pm
Values for Seated Liberty half dollars, in all grades, are continuing their steady climb higher. With a few exceptions, this rising trend in values is gradual with no substantial jumps.
The Seated Liberty design type stretches from 1837 through 1891 and constitutes the largest design series in U.S. coins, because it encompasses six denominations from half dimes through dollars.

Several auctions strong - Coin Values
Nov 3 at 11:11am
Analysis of numismatic auctions conducted during the last two weeks of October points to several trends.
First, prices for many coins are holding up beautifully, as though there’s no reason to be concerned with the economic storm the world is experiencing. Many people keep much of their money in areas they understand, like stocks, real estate and coins, and often they don’t venture into multiple investment types.

Economic uncertainty and coins - Coin Values
Oct 13 at 7:07pm
The coin market is feeling the effects of the economy more than at any other time in recent history, possibly the most since during the high inflationary days of the late 1970s and early 1980s. “High impact” events have been happening almost daily recently, deepening the current crisis and adding new factors to the mix. No clear trend has emerged for the long-term market for numismatic coins, but a high demand trend has emerged for precious metals.

Where will coins head? - Coin Values
Oct 7 at 10:10pm
Don’t panic! Take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. Then you can think about the economic turmoil we’re all trying to find our way through.
These are unprecedented times, and there are no rules as to what the values of coins are going to do during the near future. A case can be made for overall coin values to fall with the rest of the economy. Another case can be made to show that rare coins serve as a safe haven from inflation, which might send coin values higher.

Early Proof prices coins soar - Coin Values
Sep 15 at 10:10pm
Many collectors are concentrating on obtaining high-grade modern Proof coins, mainly in the Proof 69 and 70 grades for registry sets or just to have near-perfect or perfect coins. Other collectors, however, have been seeking earlier Proof coins from the 19th and 20th centuries.
As a result, values for these earlier Proof coins have soared, many to the point where dealers are willing to pay full retail prices just to obtain a pleasing array of inventory to offer customers.

Inflation moving metals - Coin Values
Jul 21 at 10:10pm
Collectors in some segments of the coin market are changing their buying habits as a result of the shaky U.S. economy, while other buyers keep roaring unaffected.
While everyone is caught up in the higher costs of living, some people are experiencing greater hardship. Collectors of average means are affected by higher fuel, food and other costs that may keep them from spending as much on coins as they previously did.

Valuing coins requires sources - Coin Values
Jul 14 at 10:10pm
People often ask, “Where do you get all your values?” Our answer is, “Many sources.” The majority of values listed in Coin World’s Coin Values and at www.coinvaluesonline.com are derived from prices realized at major public auctions.
Private transactions are another useful source of pricing data, although we are not privy to many of these transactions. If a private transaction (especially for record prices) is made…

Original coin surfaces count - Coin Values
Jul 7 at 10:10pm
It’s no secret. Coins with “original,” untampered-with surfaces are worth premiums – sometimes large premiums. Nowhere in the coin market is this more apparent than for U.S. coins dating from the first issues of 1792 to those of the late 1830s.
Of course contemporary coinage is easy to find with original surfaces, as are 20th century coins.

Grades may be same - Coin Values
Jun 30 at 3:03pm
Imagine finding two identical American Eagle platinum coins. One coin is housed in a Numismatic Guaranty Corp. holder, while the other is certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service.
Since NGC and PCGS are the largest firms of their kind, many would assume that our sample coins have the same value. That could be a very costly mistake.

Market generally solid - Coin Values
Jun 16 at 9:09pm
Nobody can predict the future of the coin market with absolute certainty. We’re still in a 5-year-old bull market trend, which is very lengthy in terms of past coin market cycles. And as we all know, the general world-wide economic climate is dismal.
Certain areas of the coin market are feeling the pinch, but overall the market still has solid support from eager buyers. As reported in the June 23 issue, collectors of average means are left with less disposable income to use for purchasing coins because they’re having to struggle with much higher living costs. This reality has slowed business in some areas, but has generally not affected values in the overall coin market.

Gold coin hoard will sell quickly - Coin Values
May 28 at 8:08am
Hearing of a “hoard” of coins conjures up images of surplus, oversupply and the uncommon that suddenly becomes common. This happened in 1962 when hundreds of thousands of the formerly rare Mint State 1903-O Morgan dollars surfaced in the form of $1,000 canvas bags of silver dollars that had been locked in a vault at the Philadelphia Mint since 1929.
The values of the previously few known Uncirculated examples of the 1903-O Morgan dollar quickly plummeted from between $1,000 and $2,000 each all the way down to about $25.
