Boy Scouts Silver Dollar Coin Legislation Passes Congress - Coin News

The Senate on Saturday joined the House in passing legislation that seeks to commemorate the centennial of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) with 350,000 silver dollar coins in 2010.
The bill, named the Boy Scouts of America Centennial Commemorative Coin Act or H.R. 5872, has overwhelming support and now moves to its next step — congressional packaging for the President, who is expected to sign it into law.

Disabled Vets commemorative coin law praised in Congress - Coin News

President Bush made the American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Coin Act law with his signature last week. With that, a small mention of its passage in the mainstream media would be expected. But not so. Articles are sparse.
The new law (Public Law No: 110-277) will have the U.S. Mint issue up to 350,000 silver dollar coins in 2010 commemorating disabled American Veterans. $10 surcharges for each coin are to help build an American Veterans’ Disabled for Life Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Disabled vets coin bill signed into law - CoinNews

President Bush today signed legislation that will honor disabled Veterans with commemorative silver dollar coins for 2010.
The designs of the coins are to be “emblematic of the service of our disabled veterans who, having survived the ordeal of war, made enormous personal sacrifices defending the principles of our democracy.”

House passes Park Quarters bill, next steps - National Park Quarters

The National Park Quarter bill will create at least 56 newly designed quarters over a ten-year period for national parks and sites in each state, D.C. and U.S. Territory. The bill (H.R.6184) passed in the U.S. House on July 9, 2008 opening the door for its next steps.

Legislation for circulated, uncirculated, proof and silver dollar coins commemorating national parks and sites flew through the House of Representatives in five weeks and ended with a unanimous “yes” vote July 9.
The House has been ablaze with coin talk this year, handling nearly 20 coin bills. Is their coin fervor resulting from the will/desires of people? And, will it carry over to the slower Senate?

Parks quarter bill passes House - CoinNews

America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (H.R. 6184) sailed through the House easily yesterday with 419 members voting “Yes”, and 0 voting “No”.
H.R. 6184 would authorize the United States Mint to make changes to the design of the quarter-dollar coin to feature one national park or other national site in each state, the District of Columbia, and each territory beginning in 2010.

The joint quarter-dollar legislation seeks to: “provide for a program for circulating quarter dollar coins that are emblematic of a national park or other national site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory of the United States.”

Girl Scouts centennial coin legislation, H.R. 6404

Should a newly introduced House bill become law, 350,000 silver $1 coins will be issued in 2011 commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Girl Scouts of the USA.
Rep. Jack Kingston introduced the Girl Scouts commemorative coin legislation last week, but it’s taken a full seven days for details to emerge.

Congress puts planets on commemoratives - Numismatic News

Nine silver dollars and a gold one-ounce $50 coin are called for in legislation seeking to honor the golden anniversary of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, known universally by its NASA initials.
There are two measures that originated in different houses of Congress. Senate Bill 2159 passed with amendments on June 19, while another measure, H.R. 250, passed the House last year.

Girl Scouts silver $1 coin introduced in H.R. 6404

U.S. Representative Jack Kingston introduced coin legislation Thursday, June 26, seeking a silver dollar coin commemorating “the centennial of the establishment of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.”
The coin bill is officially named H.R. 6404. It’s so freshly new that the Government Printing Office (GPO) has not yet had the chance to enter the text of the legislation into their system.

National Park Quarters Proposed - NumisMaster

Michael Castle, R-Del,. legislative founder of the statehood quarter program, joined forces with the ranking Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee to sponsor H.R. 6184, as an omnibus measure that, if passed, will change the way we look at our change.

The U.S. House of Representatives agreed Tuesday to a minor Senate Amendment for H.R. 634, the American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Coin Act. The coin legislation is nearly cemented for approval and signing by President Bush.

National Park State Quarter Series Comments - CoinNews

Coin legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives last week calling for the creation of another multi-year quarter series. The America’s Beautiful National Parks Quarter Dollar Coin Act of 2008 (H.R. 6184) would try to draw on the success of the popular 50 States Quarters® Program by replication.
Starting in the year 2010, the bill would result in 5 new quarters per year that are emblematic of a national park or other national site in each State, U.S. Territory and the District of Columbia.

The ancient red rock arch, so emblematic of Utah’s wilderness, may grace the back of a quarter.
The congressman behind the popular state-themed quarters is now proposing a new batch of specialty coins honoring national parks and other historic sites from every state in the union. If passed, Utah’s five national parks would have to fight for the honor.

What does Mother’s Day, the Infantry, and Disabled Veterans have in common? They all had bills passed on Tuesday for the issuing of commemorative coins in their honor.
Following the death of her mother in 1905, Anna Marie Jarvis devoted her life to establishing Mother’s Day as a national, then international holiday. Although there were some celebrations, there were no holidays to celebrate mom. With the financial help of famed clothing merchant John Wanamaker, West Virginia became the first state to recognize Mother’s Day as a holiday in 1910. On May 14, 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a presidential proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.

Two were given a thumbs up by House and moved to the Senate for consideration while a third bill passed the Senate and will soon await Presidential signing.

U.S. House of Representatives Approves the ‘Mother’s Day Centennial Commemorative Coin Act’

The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Mothers Day Centennial Commemorative Coin Act (HR 2268), which, if passed by the Senate and signed into law by the President, authorizes the U.S. Mint to produce a commemorative coin in 2014 in honor of the centennial of the holiday Mothers Day.
Each coin will carry a $10.00 surcharge that would be divided evenly between the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to further their research grant programs. NOF applauds Representatives Shelley Moore Capito (WV) and Carolyn Maloney (NY) who introduced the bill, as well as the 297 cosponsors.
The minting of this coin honoring our mothers is a small step in showing our gratitude for how our mothers have contributed to the successes of our lives, said Representative Capito.

The quarters are to be “emblematic of a national park or other national site in each State, the District of Columbia, and each territory of the United States.”

Coin celebrates Boy Scouts’ 100th year - Bellevue Leader

Senators Ben Nelson of Nebraska and Jeff Sessions of Alabama recently introduced legislation to create a $1 silver coin to recognize the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
Under the legislation, the U.S. Mint would produce 350,000 commemorative coins in honor of the anniversary.
