While attending the Whitman Coin Expo in Baltimore, Maryland this week, I was lucky enough to be the designated bidder for David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) at the show’s official auction by Bowers and Merena Auctions.

As the auction approached, the finest known 1901-S Barber Quarter was to be offered as lot 737. Graded by PCGS as MS-68, this item is undisputedly the nicest known specimen and was described...

Ponterio & Associates, Inc., the world and ancients auction division of Bowers and Merena Auctions, conducted its Official  Auction of the January 2010 New York International Numismatic Convention (N.Y.I.N.C.) and realized more than $2.5 million.Russian 1902 37 1/2 Rubles

The sale was conducted in two sessions January 8-9, 2010, and offered more than 2,300 lots of important Ancient coins, International coins, paper money, orders and decorations.

"Bidding activity was very strong in our January 2010 N.Y.I.N.C. Auction," observed Rick Ponterio, executive vice president of Bowers and Merena Auctions, "with many coins and notes selling for noteworthy prices.

Particularly impressive results were achieved through our offering of the Chester Skotak Collection of Central American Coinage as well as in the section of the sale dedicated to Russian, Annamese and Argentine Sun Face coinage."

Bowers and Merena, America’s premier rare coin and currency auction house, kicked off what promises to be an exciting year with its January 2010 Orlando Rarities Sale.1879 Judd-1635 Flowing Hair Stella

The sale, with nearly 1,000 lots of rare and enticing United States, Colonial and Territorial gold coinage, was conducted in a single session on January 5. Total prices realized for the auction is in excess of $2.5 million.

"We had a strong turnout among bidders in our Orlando Rarities Sale," stated Bowers and Merena president Steve Deeds, "and prices realized for many lots reflected collectors’ interests in rare, difficult-to-find coins in premium-quality condition.
