Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Meets November 24

Tony Blair, Treasury Secretary and United States Mint Director Medal Designs to be Reviewed

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will hold a public meeting at noon (ET) on Monday, November 24, 2008, at the Thayer Hotel, 674 Thayer Road, West Point, New York, 10996.  The purpose of the meeting is to conduct business related to the CCAC’s responsibility to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs pertaining to United States coinage.

Agenda (subject to change):
* Review design candidates for the obverse and reverse of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring former Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom.
* Review design candidates for the obverse and reverse of the bronze medals honoring Henry M. Paulson, Jr., the 74th Secretary of the Treasury, and Ed Moy, the 38th Director of the United States Mint.
* Review the reverse design narrative for the 2010 Native American $1 Coin.
* Other general business.

Who:  Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC)
Pursuant to 31 U.S.C. 5135, the CCAC was established to:

* Advise the Secretary of the Treasury on any theme or design proposals relating to circulating coinage, bullion coinage, commemorative coins, Congressional gold medals, and national and other medals produced by the Secretary;

* Advise the Secretary of the Treasury with regard to the events, persons, or places that the Committee recommends to be commemorated; and

* Advise the Secretary of the Treasury with respect to the mintage level for any commemorative coin recommended.

When:      Monday, November 24, 2008, from noon to 2 p.m.

The CCAC meeting is open to the public. News media are welcome.

Lady Liberty May be Back on U.S. Coinage - NumisMaster

Are you one of the thousands of coin collectors who would love to see Lady Liberty restored to her rightful place on America’s circulating coinage? Now, before I tell you about this exciting proposal I need to acknowledge what many of you are thinking - efforts to restore Lady Liberty to our circulating coinage never succeed. If that is your thought, numismatic history shows that you are correct. Lincoln has been on the cent since 1909.

Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee Announces New Appointment

Committee Also Seeking Applications for Member to Represent the General Public

Washington - The United States Mint announced today that Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, Jr., has appointed Roger W. Burdette to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC). Mr. Burdette, who will serve a four-year term, was chosen as the CCAC member with special qualifications in numismatics.

Mr. Burdette is a life-long numismatist who has written numerous articles and a series of three critically acclaimed books titled Renaissance of American Coinage. Mr. Burdette holds a Bachelors of Science degree and a Masters of Science degree, both in Education, from the University of Maryland. He is a Lead Information Systems Engineer with Mitre Corporation in Potomac Falls, Virginia.

The United States Mint also announced today that the application process for appointment to an open position on the CCAC for a member representing the interests of the public has been extended to August 22, 2008. The United States Mint will review all applications and will forward recommendations to the Secretary of the Treasury for consideration.

CCAC to Meet August 1 at ANA World’s Fair of Money® - US Mint

Design Candidates for 2009 American Eagle Platinum Proof Reverse Slated for Review

The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will hold a public meeting at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) on Friday, August 1, 2008, at the Baltimore Convention Center at One West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD, 21201, the site of this year’s American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct business related to the CCAC’s responsibility to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs pertaining to United States coinage.

“Every year the members of the CCAC look forward to meeting at the ANA convention, because it’s a great opportunity to interact with the numismatic community,” noted CCAC Chairman Mitch Sanders. “We hope that any interested numismatists will come to our meeting and forum to see the coin design process in action, and especially to let us know their opinions about American coin design.” Read the rest of this entry »
