As a reminder, the United States Mint launched the US Mint Braille Education Set on Thursday at noon Eastern Time.
The 25,000 limited edition set is priced at $44.95. It includes a tri-fold binder containing one uncirculated 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar, educational material and readable Braille. The dollar celebrates the 200th anniversary of Braille's birth.
Born in France, Louis Braille lost the sight in his left eye at the age of three from an accident with a tool in his father's workshop. WASHINGTON - The United States Mint is pleased to offer the public a special Braille Education Set that will be available for purchase beginning noon Eastern Time (ET) October 8, 2009.
The set is a tri-fold binder containing one uncirculated 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar, educational material and readable Braille. The coin is struck in 90 percent silver.
Production of the Braille Education Set is limited to 25,000 units. Orders for the set will be limited to one set per household.
The Braille Education Set is priced at $44.95. The United States Mint will accept orders at its secure Web site, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, or at the toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Customers should add $4.95 to all domestic orders for shipping and handling costs.

WASHINGTON -- During a ceremony July 31, senior NASA officials will present the National Federation of the Blind with two Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollars that flew on space shuttle Atlantis's mission to the Hubble Space Telescope in May 2009.

BALTIMORE - United States Mint Director Ed Moy, joined by National Federation of the Blind (NFB) President Marc Maurer, launched the Nation's first coin with readable Braille during a ceremony today at the NFB headquarters in Baltimore.
The coin commemorates the life and work of Louis Braille, who developed the tactile method of reading and writing used by the blind. The ceremony included a videotaped message from United States Senator Christopher J. Dodd, one of the primary sponsors of the "Louis Braille Bicentennial-Braille Literacy Commemorative Coin Act" (Public Law 109-247).
"For the first time in history, the United States has a coin with readable Braille," Director Moy told the audience. "The 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar honors the developer of Braille, a tactile code that has been instrumental in the literacy and independence of the world's blind people."

2009 Braille Silver Dollars celebrate the bicentennial birth of Louis Braille, who is most remembered for inventing the Braille system for reading and writing by the blind and visually impaired.
On March 26, the United States Mint will begin issuing up to 400,000 proof and uncirculated silver coins bearing the image of Braille on the obverse or heads side.
The reverse or tails side of the silver dollars depict a child reading a book in Braille and includes the word Braille (abbreviated "BRL" in Braille code) depicted in the upper field.

The United States Mint has set preliminary launch dates for several 2009 coin products, including the Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar.
The up to 400,000 collector proof and uncirculated silver coins will be issued beginning on March 26, according to the latest Mint product schedule.

Large posters featuring the new 2009 Louis Braille commemorative silver dollar will greet visitors to the Whitman Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention slated for Nov. 20-22.
The National Federation of the Blind will have a booth at the convention where attendees can learn more about the upcoming coin, which will have a mintage of 400,000.
