Lot viewing for the entire auction is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, September 11-13.
The coin, cataloged as August Humbert. $50 Gold. Reeded Edge. K-5. Rarity-5. 880 THOUS. MS-65 * (NGC), boasts a combined PCGS and NGC Population (1851 $50 Reeded Edge, 880 THOUS variety only) of just 1; 0 finer.

Bowers and Merena Realizes More Than $4.4 Million at Baltimore Rarities Sale

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin auction house, hosted their Baltimore Rarities Sale on July 26, 2008, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, just prior to the ANA World’s Fair of Money. The auction presented approximately 1,100 coin and 200 currency lots and realized a total of $4,427,243.
Earning top dollar was Lot 384, a 1918/7-D Buffalo Nickel, FS-016.5, graded MS-64 by PCGS that realized $155,250. A major condition rarity, this near-Gem is easily among the finest-known survivors of the variety, with a PCGS Population of 31 and a mere three finer in MS-65. Lot 1093, a 1795 Capped Bust Right Half Eagle, Small Eagle, BD-8, HBCC-3041, Miller-10, Rarity-5+, graded MS-63 PL by NGC, realized $146,625.

The market resumed its strong momentum in pre-American Numismatic Association convention trading at auctions conducted by Superior Galleries, Bowers and Merena Auctions, and Stack’s.
Superior’s auction was up first, starting the morning of July 26. Superior has been in the coin field since 1931, but in recent years has gone through a series of ownership changes.

Bowers and Merena to Present Nearly 1,300 Coin Lots at Baltimore Rarities Sale

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin auction house, will host their Baltimore Rarities Sale in July at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront, just prior to the ANA World’s Fair of Money. The auction of nearly 1,300 lots will be presented on Saturday, July 26, with lot viewing scheduled for Thursday to Saturday, July 24-26, and lot pick-up on Sunday, July 27. The catalog includes approximately 1,100 coin and 200 currency lots.
At the top of the highlights list is an impressive 1866-S No Motto Liberty Double Eagle graded MS-60 by NGC. It is described as a High Condition Census example, one of only three Mint State examples known to PCGS and NGC, and the type of Mint State rarity that is not often available to collectors for purchase.

B&M bidding puts 1801 $10 on top - Numismatic News

An 1801 Capped Bust gold $10 topped Bowers and Merena Auctions’ June 5-6 sale at the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention.
The $10, graded MS-64 by Professional Coin Grading Service, sold for $111,550 in B&M’s auction of more than 3,000 lots. The full sale realized $6,258,873. An 1804 Capped Bust half eagle graded MS-64 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. went for $60,375, and a proof 1860 $3 gold piece in NGC Proof-65 Cameo reached $57,500.

Bowers and Merena Realizes More Than $6.2 Million at Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin auction house, posted another highly successful outing in Baltimore as Official Auctioneer of the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention. More than 3,000 lots crossed the block in three sessions June 5-6, 2008, realizing $6,258,873.
“The June Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention is the kick-off to the summer show season and we were very pleased with the attendance at the show and our three sessions of live bidding.
Bidding was very active for coins as well as currency and we are happy with the results,” said Steve Deeds, president of Bowers and Merena.

Baltimore sale features gold - Numismatic News

Bowers and Merena Auctions’ June 5-6 sale at the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention features a condition rarity 1920-S Saint-Gaudens double eagle.
The 1920-S $20 is graded MS-63 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. B&M sale catalogers wrote of the 1920-S, “The majority of survivors are circulated to one degree or another, and Jeff Ambio (2008) accounts for just 65-75 coins in all Mint State grades.”
