Bowers and Merena to Bring Over 4,300 Rare Coin and Currency Lots

Bowers and Merena’s Big Finish for 2008 Brings more than 4,300 lots to the Official Auction of the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention in November. Highlights Including the Exceptional 1870-CC Double Eagle Rarity and One of the Two Highest-Graded 1802 Quarter Eagles, Along With a New Discovery 1795 Reeded Edge Cent.

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin and currency auction house, finishes strong for 2008 as Official Auctioneer of the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention for the third time this year, with their upcoming auction scheduled for November 18-22, 2008, at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Bowers and Merena will continue their longstanding association with the convention into 2009 and beyond with three more official Baltimore auctions in 2009. This November auction will present more than 4,300 coin and currency lots during five sessions.

1851 Augustus Humbert $50 Gold Piece Realizes $460K, Bowers and Merena Coin Rarities Sale Totals Over $3.3M

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin and currency auction house, hosted their Beverly Hills Rarities Sale on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at The Tower Beverly Hills. The 933-lot auction of high-end rarities realized a total of $3,317,135.

The spotlight of the auction was on the new discovery 1851 Augustus Humbert $50 Gold piece of the Reeded Edge, 880 THOUS (K-5, Rarity-5) variety graded MS-65 * by NGC that realized $460,000 after an excited round of bidding. Prior to the auction, NGC chairman Mark Salzburg called it “the most memorable coin I have graded all year.”

Bowers and Merena Realizes More Than $6.2 Million at Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention

Bowers and Merena Auctions, America’s leading rare coin auction house, posted another highly successful outing in Baltimore as Official Auctioneer of the Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention. More than 3,000 lots crossed the block in three sessions June 5-6, 2008, realizing $6,258,873.

“The June Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention is the kick-off to the summer show season and we were very pleased with the attendance at the show and our three sessions of live bidding.

Bidding was very active for coins as well as currency and we are happy with the results,” said Steve Deeds, president of Bowers and Merena.

ANA, Bowers and Merena Sign Auctioneer Agreement - CoinNews

COLORADO SPRINGS – The American Numismatic Association has signed a definitive agreement for Bowers and Merena Auctions to act as the official auctioneer for the two 2009 ANA shows, the Los Angeles World’s Fair of Money® and the Portland National Money Show™, Executive Director Larry Shepherd announced today.
