American Numismatic Society Now Open - Coin News

The American Numismatic Society (ANS) has officially opened its new headquarters in lower Manhattan, New York. The ANS indicates its educational and research facilities are now available to international scholars, students and members of the general public — ANS has one of the world’s largest numismatic libraries and a vast coin collection.

Moy opens new ANS HQ - Numismatic News

A ribbon cutting formally opened the new American Numismatic Society headquarters Oct. 24 at 75 Varick St. in New York City. ANS President Roger Siboni held the red ribbon as U.S. Mint Director Edmund C. Moy cut it with a scissors.

eBay, ANA, PNG Sued in Antitrust Claims - NumisMaster

Online Internet auction firm eBay, the American Numismatic Association, the Professional Numismatists Guild, and the ANA president’s coin firm have been hit with a lawsuit in federal court alleging anti-competitive conduct.

There are four plaintiffs: Universal Grading Service of New Jersey; John Callandrello, a UGS shareholder; Joseph Komito, a New Jersey coin dealer; and Vadim Kirichenko, a New York coin dealer. They claim damages in excess of $75,000, exclusive of costs, interest and attorney’s fees and permanent injunctive relief.

Hispanic Society Wants Coins From ANS - NumisMaster

The Hispanic Society of America wants to sell some 38,000 “permanent loan” coins that the American Numismatic Society has held and been cataloging since the death of benefactor Arthur Milton Huntington in 1955 at age 85. Sotheby’s apparently will use ANS cataloging data to facilitate the sale, which some say could exceed $30 million.

The surprise move was reported in The Art Newspaper in a copyrighted story by Jason Edward Kaufman. A check of New York Supreme Court files reveals four court decisions, on March 4, April 8, June 4 and July 15 supporting the win for the Hispanic Society. Two decisions are marked “Default.”

Hispanic Society to sell historic coin collection? - The Art Newspaper

The Hispanic Society of America has recalled 38,000 coins from the American Numismatic Society (ANS) which have been on loan for more than half a century—and appears to be preparing to sell them.

The valuable collection consists of coins minted in Spain, its dependencies, and the powers that controlled Spain from the 5th century BC until the 20th century.
