2011 Proof American Gold Eagle Coins went on sale nearly one year ago with five product options. The individual one-tenth ounce coin was declared sold out on Thursday, April 12, 2012, leaving only one of the five products remaining — the Four-Coin Set.
Like past sell outs in the 2011 series, the one-tenth ounce coin did not reach its product limit of 30,000 and it will not reach its maximum mintage of 70,000, even though the Four-Coin Set includes the small coin and it is still for sale.
As of Monday, April 9, the United States reported coin sales of 23,926 of the individual one-tenth ounce and another 17,991 in the Four-Coin Set for a combined total of 41,917. Stopping sales before an initially announced limit is reached is fairly normal. When demand begins to slow earlier in a collector coin’s life, the U.S. Mint will produce fewer of them.
The following is a table which provides the initially published product limits and mintages as well as the latest sales for the 2011 Proof American Gold Eagle products.

Based on demand for the 2011 Eagles, the U.S. Mint has reduced its announced product and mintage limits for the 2012 Proof American Gold Eagle Coins which will be released Thursday, April 19, 2012. (Sales of the 2011-dated four-coin set may be halted when the 2012 Gold Eagles launch).
