New Coin Collecting Products Excite US Mint Sales

Inspiring more buying activity was the debut of four new coin collecting products from the United States Mint.

Among new coin collecting products to excite US Mint sales were 2012-S Acadia quarters in rolls and bags

They were the Making American History Coin and Currency Set, the 2012-W American Platinum Eagle Proof Coin, and bags and rolls of 2012-S Acadia quarters.

As described in an earlier news article, opening numbers for the Making American History Coin and Currency Set hit 24,130 after launching on Tuesday, August 7 through to Monday, August 13. Its sales were the highest of the entire week for all of the U.S. Mint’s coin collecting products. The second closest performer was the 2012 Proof Set with an increase of 12,522.

The U.S. Mint released the 2012 Platinum Eagle Proof Coin on Thursday, and by Monday it sold 2,461 of them. Earlier proof Platinum coins, also featuring reverse designs emblematic of the U.S. constitution’s Preamble, had much higher inaugural sales, as reported in yesterday’s news article. To recap, the 2011 issue opened at 6,786 and the 2010 strike debuted at 8,268. In 2009 the Platinum Eagle started at 7,207.

Also showing up in the U.S. Mint’s line-up were 100-coin bags and 40-coin rolls of 2012 San Francisco Acadia quarters. The bags were out-sold by the rolls 2,761 to 3,429 between August 9 and August 13. Their sales were slower than the start for the San Francisco Chaco Culture quarters in July, which debuted with 3,413 bags and 3,589 rolls purchased.

All available sales on U.S. Mint coin collecting products are below. The first three columns of the table provide weekly United States Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The last column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, August 13. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Thursday, August 16, except for the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion Coins, which have sales as of August 10.
