On Friday, June 1, 2012, the United States Mint began taking orders for its limited edition 2012 Star Spangled Banner Bicentennial Silver Dollar Set.
Offered for $53.95, the Bicentennial Set is a collectible product created by the U.S. Mint to help celebrate the bicentennial writing of the national anthem as it is directed to do by the Star-Spangled Banner Commemorative Coin Act.
With the limited edition set comes a colorful folder containing:
- a 2012 Star Spangled Banner Proof Silver Dollar Commemorative Coin,
- a reproduction of one of Francis Scott Key’s original manuscripts of his poem,
- the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner, and
- information about the national anthem
Back on March 5, 2012, the U.S. Mint released 2012 Star-Spangled Banner coins composed of gold and silver in collectible proof and uncirculated qualities. As such, the proof silver dollar within the newly released set is actually available separately, but it costs $1 more at $54.95. That makes the set a bit of a bargain for collectors who enjoy coins coupled with attractive artwork and historic information.
