Inaugural Benjamin Harrison Presidential Dollar Coin Cover Sales

It would be a difficult challenge for any U.S. Mint coin collecting product to outsell 2012-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coins, even for new items making their debut. The proof coins beat the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Dollar Coin Cover inaugural sales 31,964 to 11,658.

While demand has been sliding for the individual 2012-W American Silver Eagle Proof Coins and recent gains could not compete with prior weekly increases of 41,853 and 62,623 that occurred earlier in September, they still remained the number one seller.

In second place was the Presidential $1 Coin Cover featuring Harrison. It was the third issue in 2012 and started the slowest compared to the Arthur $1 Coin Cover debut of 13,562 in April and the Grover Cleveland First Term Coin Cover start of 12,406 in June. Still, the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Dollar Coin Cover did boost sales of 13 out of 14 of the older covers that are still available.

In other coin collecting news, American Silver Eagle Bullion Coins have been on fire. Their monthly total advanced by 1,264,000 over the past seven days compared to 922,000 during the previous week. The rise in sales caused September’s total to hit 3,225,000 and became the second best performing month of the year.

Also climbing were the one ounce American Gold Eagle Bullion Coins, with an addition of 21,000. Their new monthly total landed at 56,500. In order to tie its second best performing month of the year, the U.S. Mint’s Authorized Purchasers would need to pick up just 1,000 more coins.

The first three columns of the table provide weekly United States Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The last column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, September 24.
