A proof 2012-S, an uncirculated 2012-P, and an uncirculated 2012-D strike, all packaged together on a a durable plastic card, make the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Quarter Three-Coin Set desirable for collectors wanting a version for their albums from each of the three United States Mint facilities that produce the coins — San Francisco, Philadelphia and Denver.

Circulating versions of the Hawaii Volcanoes quarter were introduced on August 27, 2012.

The three-coin set card has been enhanced in 2012 to contain a beautiful, full-color illustration of the park that is promoted on the quarter. In this case, it is an image of molten lava burning a path through trees and grass. Below the image are the three coins, and on the back of the card is a brief description of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and the design on the quarter, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.

Kilauea Volcano, specifically its very active east rift, is depicted on the reverse design of the quarter as it erupts, spewing lava into the air. It was drawn and engraved by U.S. Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles L. Vickers. Inscriptions are HAWAI’I VOLCANOES, HAWAII, 2012 and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Like all America the Beautiful Quarters, the obverse shows George Washington, the first President of the United States. The image was enhanced to bring out the subtle details and beauty of the original model by John Flanagan. Inscriptions are UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.

Orders are being accepted via the bureau’s online catalog at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog and by phone at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). At this time, all fourteen America Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets are available, although the 2010 and 2011-dated products cost more, at $14.95 each.

As mentioned, circulating quality Hawai’i Volcanoes Quarters became available in rolls and bags on August 27 from the U.S. Mint, and the Federal Reserve Bank released the coins into public circulation on the same day. The next collector product to feature the park will be the 2012-P Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on September 24, 2012.
