United States Mint sales figures revealed the newest El Yunque National Forest Quarters helped supplement collector interest to several other numismatic products.
In all 62 items outperformed their previous weekly gains compared to 21 in the previous report, and the new items that captured the most attention were El Yunque Quarters in bags and rolls.
El Yunque quarters launched on Friday, February 3. The coins honor El Yunque National Forest located in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, and they are the eleventh in the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Split up, collectors ordered 2,189 of the 100-coin bags from Philadelphia and 2,131 of the 100-coin bags from Denver. The two-roll set was a top seller with 15,542.
Compared to recent quarter debuts, the newest release had a slower start, but it also opened much later in the week while the prior three launched on a Monday. The 2011 Chickasaw Quarter Two-Roll Set started with 17,754; the Vicksburg Quarter Two-Roll Set debuted at 18,719; and the Olympic Quarter Two-Roll Set began with 18,448
As with many debuts within a series, an old design is removed from the US Mint shelves when a new design appears. That was the case with the Gettysburg National Military Park Quarter bags and rolls when the El Yunque National Forest Quarters opened.
Close in popularity behind the new El Yunque quarters were the 2011 Uncirculated Silver Eagles. Many more orders for the coins were taken in this latest round compared to the prior one. Collectors recently took in 14,286 of them versus 4,455. The 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Set also spiked, taking third place as it advanced 4,422 after adding 1,190.
A few US Mint bullion coins got a good start for the new month. The Silver Eagles are already at 710,000 and the one ounce Gold Eagles have 8,000. The quarter ounce Gold Eagles have climbed by 2,000 and the Gold Buffalos rose by 1,500.

The first three columns of the table provide weekly United States Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, February 6, 2012. Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Tuesday, February 7, except for the five ounce bullion coins.
