Highlights in the latest US Mint product sales include two debuting issues and a spike in gold coin sales. Older collector sets improved in this round, while this year’s sets’ sales eased.
The Chickasaw Quarter Three-Coin Set was the Mint's top selling collector product of the week.
The Chickasaw Quarter Three-Coin Set proved to be a chart topper by earning 10,483 in US Mint sales. The only other product coming close was the 2011 Proof Set with 8,632. Although the quarter product exceeded the 10K marker between its launch on December 20 and Tuesday, December 27, its start was the slowest thus far in the Three-Coin Set series, as indicated in the table below.

Also opening in this report was the Garfield $1 Coin & First Spouse Medal Set. Its numbers came to 1,521 after launching on Thursday, December 22. It was a better start than the previous issue in the series, honoring the Hayes, which began with 1,448 when it debuted in September. As for earlier sets, the Grant coin and medal set initially had 1,569 orders in July, and Johnson’s set started with 2,362 in May.

As far as gold coin sales go, demand for the 2011 Proof Gold Eagle one-quarter ounce coin grabbed the most attention. It gained 2,116 compared to 87 previously. A major drop in prices brought on the change. The Gold Eagle’s Four Coin Set also shined by advancing 1,300 up the chart versus 54, and the one ounce Uncirculated Gold Eagle leaped by 551 after gaining only 59 during the prior week.
