Theodore RooseveltWhile catching up on the weekend’s reading I came across an article Debate rages in coin world: Theodore Roosevelt or George Washington on new quarter? The quarter was born of controversy when Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon chose John Flanagan’s depictions over what had been determined to be a more artistic version by Laura Gardin Fraser. Although Mellon was a collector of great fine art that was ...

The numismatic press recently announced that the new 2010 cents having a shield reverse were inexplicably released in Puerto Rico in advance of their scheduled February release date. Bullion coins continue retreat

by Numismatic News on January 28, 2010

in Gold Coins, Numismatic News

The big story this week is the continued retreat in the precious metals sector and its effect on bullion-related type gold coins. While gold is down about 1 percent, silver and platinum have eroded by 6 to 7 percent and all are near the bottom of the recent trading range. Trading in this area and lack of strong investment buyer demand has hammered many of the premiums  ...

Coin Monday: ‘Well, now, I wouldn’t say that!’

January 26, 2010

I had something of a “throwback moment” recently, reading through a copy of the “Greysheet” for the first time since — was it my internship here in the summer of 2004, or all the way back in 2002, when I was still in high school?
The Greysheet, more formally known as the COIN DEALER newsletter [sic], [...]
