WASHINGTON - The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for the Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coin on July 2, 2009, at noon Eastern Time (ET).  The one-half ounce 24-karat gold coin, struck at the United States Mint at West Point, will be available in proof and uncirculated conditions.

2009 Silver Proof Set

WASHINGTON - The 2009 United States Mint Silver Proof Set will be available at noon Eastern Time (ET) on July 17, 2009.  Pricing for this annual set is $52.95 per unit.

This year's set contains 18 coins:

  • four Presidential $1 Coins honoring William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, James K. Polk and Zachary Taylor;
  • a new Native American $1 Coin;
  • six commemorative quarter-dollar coins honoring the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories (the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the United States Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands);
  • four new Lincoln Bicentennial One-Cent Coins struck in honor of the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth;
  • and the Jefferson 5-cent coin, Roosevelt dime and Kennedy half-dollar. [click to continue…]

The distinct possibility that precious metals may have been stolen from the Royal Canadian Mint is "inexcusable," the federal minister responsible for the Crown corporation said Monday.

Legends of TV and film will surrender the Hollywood spotlight for a night when a different kind of American star takes to the podium at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Beverly Hills: A historic 1854-S quarter eagle, graded VF35 NGC, will lead the Platinum Night offerings of Heritage Auction Galleries’ August 2009 Los Angeles U.S. Coin Auction, July 31-Aug. 2.

"This coin is truly a legendary rarity," said Greg Rohan, President of Heritage, "and one of just a dozen known survivors from the first quarter eagle issue produced by the San Francisco Mint. In Heritage’s in-house condition census of the surviving 12, this example is rated fifth overall."

Just 246 examples of the 1854-S quarter eagle were struck since the San Francisco Mint focused on making larger denominations such as the eagle and double eagle, and the relative "small change" denomination of the gold dollar, leaving the quarter eagle and half eagle relatively neglected. Mint Sales Figures Standing out in the latest batch of US Mint sales figures is an eyebrow raising increase for the 18-coin clad 2009 Proof Set.

After a double-take, the numbers were verified as true. Another 106,987 were purchased during the prior seven days ending on Sunday.

First Spouse Coin Sales Figures First Spouse Coin sales were again mixed last week but trended a touch higher, according to new US Mint data.

Proof sets seem to be up, up and away this week. Sales of the 2009 18-coin clad set are up by nearly 107,000, 2009 six-quarter silver sets are up 6,173, six-quarter sets are up 6,275 and four-coin presidential sets are up 4,433.
