Available now is the 2013 US Mint Proof Set. This product for collectors was released Thursday, March 28, 2013 for $31.95.
Issued every year, it is the most popular annual coin collecting set that is produced by the United States Mint.
Until last year, sales of the proof set had quite easily topped one million. For whatever reason, the US Mint did not make as many last year and 2012 Proof Set sold out. US Mint reported sales place its final number at 794,002.
This year’s proof set, like the previous three, includes 14 coins in proof quality. This is a US Mint finish that most coin collectors prefer as it offers exceptional coin detail and provies for a lustrous shine. Each coin is produced at the San Francisco Mint and has the designating "S" mint mark. The 14 collectible proof coins in the 2013 US Mint Proof Set are the:
- Lincoln Cent
- Jefferson Nickel
- Roosevelt Dime
- Kennedy Half-Dollar
- Native American $1 Coin
- William McKinley $1 Coin
- Theodore Roosevelt $1 Coin
- William Howard Taft $1 Coin
- Woodrow Wilson $1 Coin
- White Mountain National Forest Quarter (New Hampshire)
- Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Quarter (Ohio)
- Great Basin National Park Quarter (Nevada)
- Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Quarter (Maryland)
- Mount Rushmore National Memorial Quarter (South Dakota)
The latter 10 proof coins feature one-year only designs. The America the Beautiful Quarters have a reverse design emblematic of the national park or national site they honor. The Presidential $1 Coins feature an obverse portrait of the President honored. This year’s Native American $1 Coin has a reverse design depicting a turkey, howling wolf, and turtle — all are all symbols of the clans of the Delaware Tribe. Also present is a ring of 13 stars to represent the original Colonies. The theme reflects "The Delaware Treaty (1778)."
All 14 collector coins are placed within three different protective lenses that offer easy viewing of the proofs. The four 2013 Presidential dollars are in one of the lenses, the 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters in another and the other five proof coins are in the remaining lens. These lenses are packaged in a newly designed box featuring a front with an image of the Washington Monument at sunrise and a back with images of quarter sites and presidents honored. Also included inside the box or carton is a United States Mint Certificate of Authenticity.
