The Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin will be the first in the series that will not be produced in mass quantities — due to their circulation suspension — but instead in amounts to meet collector demand. The dollars will be available for sale directly from the U.S. Mint in multiple options, including rolls and boxes, starting at noon Eastern Time on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin Rolls and Boxes
The Arthur dollars mark the 21st release in the United States Mint Presidential $1 Coin Program, and the first of four 2012 Presidential Dollars. Upcoming 2012 dollars will honor Grover Cleveland (1st term), Benjamin Harrison, and Grover Cleveland (2nd term).
The Arthur Presidential dollars are minted in Philadelphia and Denver in circulation quality and specially packaged in 25 coin rolls for $32.95 as well as 250 coin boxes for $275.95 and 500 coin boxes for $550.95 each. United States Mint Rolls Out Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin Products on April 5
The United States Mint will begin accepting orders for collectible rolls of Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coins at noon Eastern Time (ET) on April 5, 2012. Each roll contains 25 circulating quality coins — wrapped in United States Mint coin paper depicting the design — from either the United States Mint facility at Philadelphia or Denver. The coin wrapping displays the mint of origin ("P" or "D") and "$25," the face value of its contents. The Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin Rolls are priced at $32.95 each.
Beginning April 5, the United States Mint also will be offering two new Presidential $1 Coin products for sale. A $1 Coin 250-Coin Box priced at $275.95 each and a $1 Coin 500-Coin Box priced at $550.95 each, both containing Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coins, will be available. The boxes include circulating quality coins from either the United States Mint facility at Philadelphia or Denver ("P" or "D"). In addition to the standard shipping and handling fee of $4.95 added to all domestic orders, there is an additional shipping charge of $7.95 per box of 500 coins because of its weight.
Both the obverse (heads side) and the reverse (tails side) designs of the Chester Arthur Presidential $1 Coin were designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart. In addition to President Arthur’s portrait, the obverse includes the inscriptions CHESTER ARTHUR, IN GOD WE TRUST, 21st PRESIDENT and 1881-1885. The reverse features Everhart’s dramatic rendition of the Statue of Liberty and the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and $1. The inscriptions 2012, E PLURIBUS UNUM and the mint of origin are incused on the edge.
