Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX) filed its Reply to Spain’s Response in the Black Swan” case, currently pending in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia.

This is expected to be the last round of written pleadings at the appellate court level. Odyssey’s filing is available for review at http://www.shipwreck.net/blackswanlegal.php.

Odyssey is appealing the district court’s dismissal of the case based on the court’s finding of lack of federal jurisdiction. [click to continue…]

Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX), pioneers in the field of deep-ocean shipwreck exploration, today filed a quarterly report with the Securities and Exchange Commission detailing results of the Company's second quarter 2010.

For the second quarter of 2010, Odyssey reported revenue of $4.3 million, compared to $0.4 million in the second quarter 2009. The Company also reported a quarterly net loss of $3.5 million, compared to a net loss of $5.0 million in 2009. The net loss per share for the second quarter was $0.05, compared to a net loss of $0.09 per share in the second quarter 2009. [click to continue…]

Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX), a pioneer in the field of deep-ocean shipwreck exploration, is pleased to report that Captain Sterling Vorus has been cleared of all charges by a court in Algeciras, Spain relating to the blockade and boarding of the Odyssey Explorer. The Spanish court ruled that Spanish officials did not have proper authorization to board or search Odyssey’s ship in 2007. [click to continue…]

Dozens of gold and silver coins hidden nearly 300 years ago were found Friday when a cannon recovered July 11 from a wrecked Spanish ship was being cleaned for preservation, salvagers reported this week.

Divers from the salvage boat "Gold Hound" brought up the ship's bronze swivel cannon ... Anne Kazel-Wilcox said, "and as workers were conserving it, the cannon became unplugged and coins were found inside." ...

The incredible "Ship of Gold" exhibit, showcasing California Gold Rush-era sunken treasure recovered from the 1857 shipwreck of the SS Central America, will make port in Boston at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money, August 10-14 at the Hynes Convention Center. The exhibit is courtesy of Monaco Rare Coins of Newport Beach, Calif.

The SS Central America was recovered in 1988 from nearly 8,000 feet below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. The ship sank in a hurricane in September 1857 while carrying California gold from Panama to New York City.

"There will be examples of historic assayers’ ingots as well as San Francisco Mint and California territorial gold coins with a combined value of over $10 million," said Adam Crum, vice president of Monaco. "One of the highlights is a huge Kellogg & Humbert ingot. Weighing just over 55 troy pounds, it is the largest surviving gold ingot of the California Gold Rush." ...

Delaware coast is a graveyard for sailing ships of old ... It's hurricane season, when a big storm can stir up the ocean floor and bring a bit of treasure to shore. Sometimes shoe buckles and buttons have come ashore, along with the coins. Treasure hunting season is well underway in the waters off of the coast of Indian River County. Captain Greg Bounds, Brent Brisben, and their team of treasure hunters found a four foot cannon and 22 gold coins just off of the coast of Indian River Shores on Sunday.

Treasure hunter Mel Fisher’s heirs have sold the salvage rights to the 1715 Treasure Fleet to Queen Jewels LLC, a Sebastian-based company led by former Cincinnati developer William Brisben.

The fleet of Spanish galleons was loaded in Cuba with gold bars, coins, diamonds, emeralds and pearls before all of the ships sank in a hurricane on July 31, 1715 ...

Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc. (NasdaqCM: OMEX), pioneers in the field of deep-ocean shipwreck exploration, and its associated company, OVH, Inc., have executed agreements to provide project research and shipwreck search and survey services for a project code-named "Shantaram to client companies of Robert Fraser & Partners LLP.

As part of the agreement, Odyssey furnished an extensive research file related to the “Shantaram” and its sinking. The company has commenced operations with a research vessel, survey equipment and crew to search a specified area and inspect targets in that area.

The contract provides cash payments totaling approximately U.S. $3.4 Million representing initial cash payments of $1.7 Million to Odyssey and OVH, Inc., and additional payments of approximately $1.5 Million within 30 days and $0.2 Million upon project completion, plus additional payments upon the sale of coins or artifacts from the “Shantaram” project.
