U.S. Coin Rarities Lead Suite of Heritage’s Sept. 2008 Long Beach Signature® Auctions

An O-101 1796 15 Stars half dollar (Lot 2018), certified AU58 by PCGS is joined by many other gold and silver rarities in Heritage’s Long Beach Signature® Auction, being held Sept 17-21, 2008.

Heritage Donates $8,000 for ANA Club Representative Program

Heritage Auction Galleries is donating $8,000 in support of the ANA’s Club Representative Program. The gift was announced by Heritage President Greg Rohan on Aug. 1 at the ANA World’s Fair of Money® in Baltimore.
The money given by Heritage will fund the program for one year. Patti Jagger Finner, ANA vice president and former national coordinator for the program, secured the gift.

Heritage Passes $40 Million in Baltimore ANA Signature® and Platinum Night Auction

Heritage Auction Galleries has set the record for the most valuable ANA Auction ever! Significant and classic rarities from all series in American numismatics, most of them offered in the Platinum Night catalogs, smashed the previous record of $27.7 million set last year at the Milwaukee ANA event.
The auction was held in Baltimore July 30 - Aug. 3, in conjunction with the World’s Fair of Money summer convention of the American Numismatic Association. Total prices realized for the American coins are currently $41,022,713, and will rise further when the post auction buys are finalized.

(Baltimore, Maryland) – Two prominent rare coin dealers jointly bid a total of $12,650 (including buyer’s premium) to have lunch with Heritage Auction Galleries Co-Chairman, best-selling author and acclaimed numismatic authority, Jim Halperin.
Conducted in conjunction with Heritage’s official auction of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention in Baltimore on “Platinum Night,” July 31, 2008, all proceeds of the winning bid and commission will be donated to ANA education programs.

A collection of deep mirror prooflike Morgan dollars will appear in the Heritage Auction Galleries’ 2008 Baltimore American Numismatic Association Signature® Auction.
The DMPL Morgans, which are presently hot in the marketplace, will appear Aug. 1 in the Fifth session of the official convention auction, which runs from July 30 until Aug. 3.

An unprecedented “lot” will be offered in conjunction with the official auction of the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money® convention in Baltimore: lunch with Heritage Auction Galleries Co-Chairman, best-selling author and acclaimed numismatic authority, Jim Halperin.
All proceeds from the winning bid, including the buyer’s premium, will be donated to the ANA’s education programs for improving numismatic resources on the ANA web site, including the successful Coins in the Classroom project that is used by teachers nationwide.

Among featured lots is an 1844 proof Seated Liberty dollar graded Proof-65 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. This piece was once part of the John J. Pittman collection as well as the Charlie Kaufman collection of proof rarities.

The coin has been consigned by a very private Northwest family whose members were unaware of its rarity or significance. The newly discovered rarity will be sold July 30-August 2, 2008, and the lot listing will be available online at HA.com during early July.

Heritage Posts $7.5 Million Auction of World Coins at May 2008 Long Beach

Heritage Auction Galleries’ Long Beach Signature® Auction of Ancients and World Coins has brought in nearly $7.5 million in prices realized. The concurrent Signature® Auction of U.S. coins realized $19 million. The totals will rise further when post auction buys are finalized.
“While the Russian market continues extremely strong,” noted Warren Tucker, Heritage’s Director of World Coins, “Latin American coins also performed very well, no doubt influenced by the addition of Cristiano Bierrenbach to our staff.

Gold Hot in Heritage’s May 2008 Long Beach $26.5 Million Auction

Top prices realized of $161,000 were reached by two very different coins in Heritage Auction Galleries’ May 28-30, 2008 Signature® in Long Beach: a 1794 Dollar VF30 PCGS (Lot 800) and an 1891-O 25C Specimen MS65 NGC (Lot 334). Total prices realized for the American coins exceeded $19 million and ancient and world coins realized an additional $7.5 million; both totals will rise further when post auction buys are finalized.
“The strong market is continuing to bring great rarities onto the Heritage auction block,” commented Heritage President Greg Rohan.
