NMI selects quarter design - CoinNews

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial revealed the selected Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) quarter design and has forwarded the decision to the United States Mint.
Unlike the quarter selection process for the District of Columbia and other U.S. Territories which involved public voting, the CNMI design was chosen by a three-member commission set up by the governor — attorney Teresa Kim, the governor’s special assistant for administration Esther Fleming, and Catherine Perry Anderson.

Virgin Islands Beauty wins quarter design - CoinNews

The official announcement is in… V.I. Beauty wins the commemorative quarter design contest. It’s been selected by residents and Governor. John P. deJongh, Jr. to represent the Virgin Islands. Public voting for three designs ended Friday, June 13. “V.I. Beauty” received 6,882 votes. The “First in Freedom” and “Three Queens” designs garnered 4,553 and 1,887 votes respectively.

Makeover for Sac $1 - NumisMaster

Weighing in on the new reverse design for the Sacagawea dollar mandated by Congress, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee viewed more than a dozen designs June 18 before selecting a female Indian planting maize (corn) in a field. The design is intended for use on the 2009 dollar coin, which is the first that will host a Native American theme.
Each year thereafter a different Native American design will appear.

United States Mint Unveils Design for First U.S. Coin with Readable Braille

For the first time, United States Mint Director Ed Moy will display in Dallas, Texas, the design for the 2009 Louis Braille Bicentennial Silver Dollar, the first United States coin to feature readable Braille. The unveiling ceremony at AT&T Plaza at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2008, will open the National Federation of the Blind’s 2008 National Convention. A United States Mint exhibit at the convention from 12 p.m. -2 p.m. CT the same day will allow visitors to examine a coin prototype and read the word “Braille” in Braille code on the prototype’s reverse (tails side).
The commemorative silver dollar, authorized by Congress and issued by the United States Mint, honors the bicentennial of the birth of Louis Braille, the creator of the Braille reading and writing system for the blind and people with vision loss. Surcharges from the sale of this collectible coin are authorized to go to the National Federation of the Blind to fund Braille literacy initiatives.

Ellington Comes Out Ahead in Coin Tossup - washingtonpost.com

The people of the District of Columbia have spoken. And the winner is: Duke Ellington.
More than 6,000 D.C. residents chose among three legendary local figures to be memorialized on the back of a U.S. quarter that will be minted to represent the District. Ellington, the jazz great, received 36 percent of the vote.

D.C. quarter design selected - CoinNews

District of Columbia Mayor Adrian Fenty announced Thursday the winning Washington, D.C. quarter design featuring historical jazz legend, Duke Ellington. The Mayor officially communicated the selection to United States Mint Director Edmund Moy.
On May 23, D.C. residents were given three quarter design concepts and asked to vote for their favorite. Public voting ended Wednesday, June 18. Over the four week voting period, 6,089 District residents cast online, mail or telephone votes.

Guam Residents Select Quarter Design, Now Up to Governor - Coin News

Public voting ended Saturday for Guam’s commemorative quarter set for release in 2009. Just as Guam residents were asked to help create the quarter designs, they were asked once again by Governor Felix P. Camacho to vote for their favorite.
Two quarter-dollar artist renderings prepared by the United States Mint and based on Guam narratives battled each other since May 20, 2008. Nearly 12,000 votes were cast online. The winning design, GU-01, won by a margin of nearly 700 votes.

Virgin Islands Commemorative Quarter Designs - CoinNews

Artist renderings of three Virgin Islands commemorative quarter designs have been prepared by the United States Mint and sent back to the Office of the Governor for review. U.S. Virgin Island residents can vote for their favorite design online or by mail-in ballot. Voting ends Friday, June 13.
The winning design will be recommended to the U.S. Mint as the selected commemorative quarter for issuance next year as part of the District of Columbia and United States Territories Circulating Quarter Dollar Program.

Artist renderings of three District of Columbia commemorative quarter designs have been prepared by the United States Mint and sent back to D.C. for review. Now the public is being asked to vote for their favorite and help select the final quarter theme.
The winning design will be recommended to the U.S. Mint, and issued next year as part of the District of Columbia and United States Territories Circulating Quarter Dollar Program.
With the conclusion of the successful 50 State Quarters® Program in 2008, the quarter “baton” has passed hands from the states and moved to honor the District of Columbia and U.S. Territories with their six new quarters in 2009.

Design for Northern Marianas commemorative coin - Saipan Tribune

Design proposals have been submitted for the commemorative quarters for the Northern Marianas, as well as for the four U.S. territories and the District of Columbia.
Numismatic News, a publication for coin and paper money collectors, showed in its website three design choices for the Northern Marianas.

Virgin Islands quarter design finalists unveiled - Virgin Islands Daily News

History. Beauty. Geography. Uniqueness. Pride. Freedom.
All of these elements of the territory will be put on display nationwide next year when the Virgin Islands quarter goes into circulation. About 500 million quarters with a design reflecting the territory will be minted and distributed across the United States in 2009.
A committee of community members and historians came up with three different designs for the tails side of the Virgin Islands quarter.

Washington D.C. quarter designs - NumisMaster

Drawings of designs for the Washington, D.C., quarter as well as those for the five insular territories - Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands have been sent to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts in anticipation of its May 15 meeting and to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee for its May 20 meeting review.
Some of the coins contain inscriptions in three languages - English, Latin and the islands’ native languages - and each contains design elements that were suggested by government authorities and forwarded to the Mint. The accompanying illustrations were obtained early through a Freedom of Information Act inquiry.
