New Ancient Coins Magazine - Susan’s Coin Blog
Dec 22 at 11:11pm
Alfredo De La Fe of Imperial Coins & Artifacts has recently begun publishing a surprisingly good (and 100% free) ancient coins related online magazine. Although many coin dealers publish the occasional article now and then, few actually go to the considerable trouble to round up several world-class experts in the field and then have write content that a beginning collector can comprehend. De La Fe’s magazine, which is published quarterly, is generously illustrated and interesting to read.

Happy Days Again for Ancient Roman Hoard - NumisMaster
Dec 11 at 11:11pm
Well, the headline may be somewhat deceiving. Happy days are here again for the two individuals with metal detectors who discovered this fourth century AD Roman coin hoard in 2006. The legend on some of the coins translates roughly from Latin to read “Happy days are here again,” likely an optimistic statement at a time the Romans were being besieged by barbarian hordes.

Nov 17 at 2:02pm
Some 3,000 years ago, the Shang Dynasty (1700-1027 BCE) in China was using cowries as money. On Second Thought - Ancient Coin Collecting
Nov 10 at 2:02pm
After reading the latest Elkins and Barford blog posts, I was inclined to consider the source and ignore them. But, having slept on it, I have to ask myself WHY? Why should I have spent more than 40 years of my life learning about ancient coins, and the cultures that produced them, just to have some star-gazer with a fixation on academic supremacy characterize me personally as a rank amateur with nothing but $$$ for a motivation?

This time it was different. An Aug. 17 online auction of ancient coins recently took place, the profits from the sale meant to assist funding the efforts of the Ancient Coin Collectors Guild in its ongoing efforts to prevent the United States government from agreeing with some archaeologists…
