Without any new products starting, sales slipped in the numismatic coin arena compared to prior weeks, according to the latest US Mint figures. Only 21 items outperformed their previous gains after 29 did it in the last report. All but one collector set lost speed.
The best US Mint seller was the proof set featuring the 2012 America the Beautiful Quarters. It rose 5,497 during its second week on the charts. During its inaugural period it racked up 50,774. Not far behind was the 2011 Uncirculated Silver Eagle which advanced 4,455. In the same category but on the investment side, bullion Silver Eagles topped 6 million in January sales for the second highest monthly figure in the history of the series. Their weekly increase of 560,000 was improved over the prior 375,000. But obviously, sales slumped as compared to the beginning of the January.
Keeping to bullion, demand for bullion US Mint Gold Eagles climbed higher for a second straight month with sales of 127,000 ounces. On a weekly basis, all sizes of the coins advanced -- that is not seen often. Returning to the collector side, proof Gold Eagles did better as well. The one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce and four-coin set each put up higher numbers than the previous week.
Attention dwindled a bit for the Vicksburg Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin but demand is still respectable following its January 12 release. It took the third best seller spot by adding 1,688 to its total which is currently at 11,301.
Speaking of five ounce coins, the other three available saw improvement. The Gettysburg, Glacier, and Olympic coins each surged by 592, 568, and 715, and previously they moved by 373, 339, and 467 respectively. The only annual set to speed up was the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set. Collectors scooped up 619 in this round versus 445 previously.

Are you really sure the 2011 proof set is a 3 comma mintage?
Thanks… Those columns were a bit close together. We tried to put a bit more space between them. The 2011 Proof Set advanced 1,340 in weekly sales. Its total sales are at 1,059,717 .
