American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set

American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets are now shipping -- at least beginning to for orders that were placed early on October 27 when the sets were released. The sets quickly sold out as buyers snapped up all 100,000 in about 4 1/2 hours, which means it will likely take some time before they all get delivered.

Reports began surfacing earlier Wednesday, November 8, that the United States Mint began updating order statuses for American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets. Early orders were denoted with having been shipped and tracking numbers provided. The United States Mint also began sending out e-mail shipping confirmation announcements.

There has been an enormous amount of anticipation surrounding the sets, as is apparent from their sellout. Since then, the buzz has grown even stronger -- ranging from collector complaints over the inability to order one, a United States Mint announced review of their release due to said complaints, and soaring secondary market values. On the latter, eBay stopped auctions of American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Sets as it told sellers they must first have possession of them. Before the stoppage, prices for single sets were actually being pre-sold for at least two times the Mint's $299.95 selling price.

The American Eagle 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set includes five one ounce Eagles which commemorate the series that debuted in 1986. The five coins are:

  • a bullion Silver Eagle without a mint mark
  • a proof Silver Eagle from West Point with a "W" mint mark
  • an uncirculated Silver Eagle from West Point with a "W" mint mark
  • an uncirculated Silver Eagle from San Francisco with an "S" mint mark
  • a reverse proof Silver Eagle from Philadelphia with a "P" mint mark

The last two coins are unique to the set as the other three are available individually and produced annually.

I recieved my cancellation e-mail from the mint today informing me that I was too far down on the “waiting list” so my order will be canceled. I’ll just wait until the hype settles down and speculator damage has taken its toll on the investors/non-numismatics. I’ll also wait until those who ordered 5 sets who really could not afford them and Christmas over indulgers sell thier sets at a reasonable premium. All I wanted was one set.

This is the most egregious and outlandish example of Director Moy’s tenure , again! He shouldn’t even be allowed in the Post Office, where he is better suited, and I bet he never even understands what Coin Collecting is all about.

Once again the mint, and Moy, takes NO responsibility except to “promise” they are “working” on this! How outragerous. This collection has been ongoing for 25 years! When they knew the limit was 100,000 sets and they STILL allowed 5 sets to be purchased? Now most are for sale, not in safe keeping buy “collectors” like myself.

Just look at eBay for how many are “available! Greed gone wild!

When the Mint and Moy have been aware for YEARS of their own inadequacy in the ordering process, yet have continued to “promise” a better and more “updated” process? Latest “apology” letter was to say “please wait till 2012?” How Moy hides behind those of us that are the true collectors and love of the collection.

I suggest to all that you write the Secretary of the Treasury directly, as well as your Senator, not some underling, and express your outrage at this example, again, of Director Moy, his lack of leadership and the pitiful example of delay and stall tactics involved.

As is obvious, why doesn’t Director Moy just submit the 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle limited production DIRECTLY to eBay and the US Treasurey benefits to us all?

Phil and Scott ! keep your finger crossing guy. I don’t that they’re spent thier last dime… If they order 5 set they can sell one set and make-up for the 5 set now.. I heard alot of them send their coin to Grading services and when it came back they can sell one set for 10 time of one… But i hope you’re lucky to get one with good deal… it’s going for $700-900 a set now… that is …WOW…And i don’t know i can afford one for myself or not with that price…

It would be very interesting to know at what order number or at
what time of order receipt, the mint has decided is too far down
on the waiting list and sent an order cancellation. Hmmmmmm…
