On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, the US Mint will introduce its next coin collecting product, the 27th American Presidency $1 Coin Cover Series featuring two William Howard Taft Presidential Dollars.
A coin news statement released by the US Mint on the 30th made the official announcement, and the coin cover’s production page is online at www.usmint.gov/catalog.
Beginning at noon ET on the 6th, collectors can order the coin cover for $19.95. Mounted within it is:
- one Philadelphia produced 2013 William Howard Taft Presidential Dollar and
- one Denver struck 2013 William Howard Taft Presidential Dollar
These coins are in circulating-quality and taken from the plant floors on the first day of their production. For the Philadelphia Mint, that was February 11, 2013. It was February 6, 2013 for the Denver Mint. The quality of the coins is the same as released for collectors on July 6, 2013 in rolls, bags and boxes.
On the front of the coin cover is a portrait of the 27th president, a Patriotic Star stamp and a postmark of August 6, 2013, Cincinnati, OH, marking its release date. The back includes brief information about President William Howard Taft, the two coins and the cover.
This year’s covers have a production limit of 20,000, which is down from last year’s limit of 22,000. A number of past coin covers are still on sale from the Mint. The following grid offers their most recent sales totals as of Sunday, July 28, 2013:
