Starting last Tuesday, September 3, 2013, the United States Mint made available its 2013 Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Discovery Set for $9.95. The set is designed with young collectors in mind, or perhaps more importantly, to introduce young children to the joys of coin collecting.
This special numismatic product sports unique, educational packaging aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 12 years old.
It features one clad 2013-P Theodore Roosevelt Presidential $1 Coin that is mounted on an informational folder covered with facts and highlights of the President. The Discovery Set also includes an 11-page activity book that is filled with quizzes and games about Roosevelt. Answers for the book can be found online or by scanning the book’s QR code with a mobile device.
Since Presidential dollars no longer enter general circulation like smaller denominated coins, the US Mint is the source to get them. For Theodore Roosevelt $1 coins, the Mint offers them in several coin collecting products like the rolls, bags, and boxes of them that were released on April 11, 2013. The dollars are also part of numerous sets this year, such as the 2013 Presidential $1 Four-Coin Set for $12.95 and the 2013 U.S. Mint Uncirculated Set for $27.95. What the Discovery Set has that the other offerings do not is the kid-themed presentation and the educational value.
Officially titled the "2013 Presidential Discovery Set – Theodore Roosevelt," anyone can purchase this coin collecting product by going to the Mint’s website at www.usmint.gov.catalog, or through the Mint’s customer service department at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The benefit of ordering from the website, if done by September 30, is it will ship for free.
