2012 Proof American Gold Eagle
2012 Proof Gold Eagles and Chaco Culture Quarter Three-Coin Sets debuted, but the .999 fine proof Silver Eagles were the star of the latest United States Mint sales stats once again. In the week following the proof Silver Eagles opener, collectors ordered another 29,117 despite the fact that six new 2012 products launched. As of Monday, the U.S. Mint has sold 328,656 Proof Silver Eagles.
Number two on the sales chart was the Chaco Culture Quarter Three-Coin Set. Its sales began Tuesday, April 17, and the total hit 10,666 by Monday. The numbers revealed a slightly weaker start than the previous issue that honored El Yunque National Forest, which was 11,391, but it was a stronger beginning than several other three-coin set openers.
As mentioned, also newly released were the 2012 Proof American Gold Eagles. Their opening sales figures struggled as well. The 22-karat collector coins likely experienced difficulties because their initial prices were the highest in history. Debut sales of the four individual coins and the four-coin set were weaker than the 2011 and 2010-dated openers, reported four days following their release. Demand for one-ounce Proof Gold Eagles was high enough to put it in fifth place among the top U.S. Mint sellers. The third and fourth positions went to the Arthur dollars. They were almost neck in neck, with the Philadelphia 25-coin roll set advancing by 2,592 and his Denver 25-coin roll set gaining 2,333 more orders.
All available sales on U.S. Mint numismatic coin products are below. The first three columns of the table provide weekly United States Mint sales increases between the listed time periods, offering a sense of recent trends. The final column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, April 23, 2012.
Bullion coin tables are found toward the bottom, with the most recent sales as of Wednesday, April 25, except for the five ounce bullion coins.
