Released Monday, September 24, 2012, and priced at $204.95, the uncirculated coin is the fourth issue for 2012 and the fourteenth overall in the numismatic five ounce series of America the Beautiful silver coins.

Its reverse showcases Charles L. Vicker’s design of an eruption on the east rift of Kilauea Volcano, one of the most unique scenes to appear on a modern American coin.

As a coin collecting product, the 2012-P Hawaii Volcanoes Five Ounce Silver Coin has the "P" mint mark that distinguishes it from the bullion version that was released earlier this month. Both coins share the same designs, composition — 99.9% fine silver, and other specifications, and are each produced at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia. Only the collector version, however, has the uncirculated finish and the "P" mint mark, which is located on the obverse to the right of George Washington’s portrait.

The price point of $204.95, while the same as previous issues, is more attractive given higher silver prices. Even as silver has come down a bit in recent days, its melt value is $169.75 with silver at its current price of $33.95 an ounce. That makes its premium a smaller $35.20 — a stark contrast to the release premiums of the last three coins which were $63.70, $68.75 and $64.70.

Interested collectors may order the 2012-P Hawaii Volcanoes Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin online at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog or by phone at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). There are no household ordering limits, but there is an overall mintage limit of 25,000 units.

Previous five ounce uncirculated coin issues this year represented El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, and Acadia National Park in Maine. The final release for this year honors Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska and is scheduled with a release date of November 5, 2012.
