Of all of the United States Mint coin collecting products, the most desired items were 2012-dated sets. In fact the top three surged by more than 10,000 in weekly orders, and 20 total offerings gained more than 1,000 in sales.
The 2012 Proof Set led all other U.S. Mint coin collecting products in sales
Ahead of the pack were 2012 Proof Sets. Collectors and gift-givers of the holiday season purchased 30,024, raising their total to 688,127. If the buying rate continues, the Proof Sets will cross the 700,000 milestone in the next sales report.
Next on everyone’s list were 2012 Mint Sets that jumped up 10,335, even after buyers scooped up 9,615 in the previous week. They are generally a top selling annual set, with 28 coins and a more reasonable price of $27.95 each. Since their launch in May, a total of 343,748 have moved off the Mint’s shelves.
The 2012 Silver Proof Set was another highly sought after item, rounding out the top three. Orders for the silver sets rang in at 9,542, which was nearly the same as before at 9,698. This year’s issue is a bit pricey at $67.95 compared to the other two most popular coin collecting goods, but half of the coins inside this set are composed of 90% silver. The newest limited-edition silver set, which contains a Silver Eagle and the silver coins within the 2012 Silver Proof Set, will appear on next week’s U.S. Mint sales report. It was released on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.

The last column provides the latest United States Mint sales totals as of Monday, November 26.
