WASHINGTON – The United States Mint today announced the release of the 2010 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set™ on May 13 at noon Eastern Time (ET).
The set contains proof versions of the first five coins in the new America the Beautiful Quarters Program bearing reverse (tails side) designs honoring Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas; Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming; Yosemite National Park in California; Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona; and Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon.
A restored version of the 1932 John Flanagan portrait of George Washington is featured on the coins’ obverse (heads side).
United States Mint proof coins are manufactured at the United States Mint at San Francisco. Unlike coins produced for general circulation, these coins are extraordinarily brilliant, with sharp relief and a mirror-like background. A frosted, sculpted foreground gives proof coins a cameo effect.
To protect their pristine finish, the coins of the United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set are sealed in a protective lens. The set includes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the Director of the United States Mint.
The 2010 United States Mint America the Beautiful Quarters Proof Set is priced at $14.95. Orders for the set will be accepted at the secure Web site, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, or at the toll-free number, 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).
