2010-P Mount Hood Silver Coin Sold Out, 2011-P Vicksburg Sales Start

The biggest news regarding United States Mint recent product sales was the sellout of the 2010-P Mount Hood National Forest Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin, which was followed one day later with the release of the 2011-P Vicksburg National Military Park Five Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin.

Mount Hood silver coin sales reached 26,831 out of a possible 27,000 by Monday, January 9, as indicated in the sales table below. But the final 169 were quickly scooped up within the next two days for an official sell out by Wednesday. With the Mount Hood mintage spoken for, all of the five ounce 2010-dated silver coins sold out.

The United States Mint is, of course, offering 2011-dated silver coins. Their number now totals four, with the sales start of the fourth issue honoring Vicksburg National Military Park which began on Thursday, January 12. (The fifth 2011-P is estimated to launch February 9.)

On the whole, numismatic sales activity was a bit muted. Sales were slower for the three most popular items compared to the prior week. In fact, only 10 numismatic products experienced weekly sales increases that were greater than reported in the previous round. In the top three spots were the 2011 Uncirculated Silver Eagles, the 2011 Proof Set, and the 2011 Silver Proof Set.

It will be interesting to see how much longer 2011 American Gold Eagle Proof Coins will be offered by the United States Mint. The one-ounce and the one-quarter ounce coins have already sold out. Last year, the Mint stopped selling all of the 2010 Proof Gold Eagles in January before the issues hit their published mintage limits.

American Silver Eagle bullion coins continued their climb toward a new record. More than one million sold in the last week, bringing the total for January to 4,597,000 or the second highest January total in the history of the series that started in 1986. Only January 2011 with 6,422,000 is higher.
