Earlier today, June 4, the United States Mint introduced its annual 14-coin Silver Proof Set for 2012. Each of the coins are produced at the San Francisco Mint to proof qualities and resultantly have an "S" mint mark.

This latest coin collecting product is priced at $67.95 and is further unique in that 7 of the 14 coins have a metallic composition of 90% silver.

While the 14 coins add up to $6.91 in value, the set’s silver melt value with the 7 precious metal coins equals $37.79 at the latest silver price of $28.24 an ounce. The weight value of the silver coins totals 1.338 troy ounces.

Silver coins within the Proof Set include:

  • 2012-S Roosevelt Dime
  • (5) 2012-S America the Beautiful Quarters
  • 2012-S Kennedy Half Dollar

This year’s quarters have reverse designs depicting scenes of El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, Acadia National Park in Maine, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii, and Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska.

Among the clad coins in the Silver Proof Set are the:

  • 2012-S Lincoln Cent
  • 2012-S Jefferson Nickel
  • 2012-S Native American Dollar
  • (4) 2012-S Presidential $1 Coins

This year’s Presidential $1 coins have obverse designs portraying former Presidents Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland (first term), Benjamin Harrison, and Grover Cleveland (second term).

As shown on the above image of the product, all 14 coins are protected within three U.S. Mint lenses which are accompanied with a certificate of authenticity and placed in a Mint-branded box.

Like all coin collecting products from the U.S. Mint, the set may be purchased online at http://www. usmint.gov/catalog.

In related coin collecting news, the U.S. Mint revealed that it was releasing a "limited edition silver proof set" for $149.95. Scheduled with a release date of November 27, 2012, the set includes each of the silver coins listed above, plus a proof American Silver Eagle that is struck in West Point. This Silver Eagle was sold separately for $59.95, but sold out.
